To get the ball rolling lets use this thread to post some race events we know of so we can all get some actual race experience lets list all upcoming regatta'a here.
This will also help any Noobs getting into so they can see whats happening where and when.
Even international events as some might want to plan a holiday around an event overseas.

Perth
Has been having a summer series for a couple of years and will happen again for 2012/13

Sydney
Has been having a summer series for a couple of years and will happen again for 2012/13

Brisbane
Has been having a summer series for a couple of years and will happen again for 2012/13

December 2012
Sail Melbourne

The ISAF Sailing World Cup - is hosted in six different countries across the world offering a competitive platform for many of the world's best sailors and the wider sailing community. These countries are Australia, USA, France, Spain, Holland, Germany and England.
Melbourne is hosted at Sandringham Yacht Club and is centred around world class Olympic sailing.
“Kiteboarding will be part of our main program this year. The event will be held from the 2nd Dec to 8th Dec, we are still finalising which days kiteboarding will be held”

Sail Sydney
The regatta is one of only eight categorised as a Grade 1 Event by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF)
To be held 13-16 December, word is they have moved the event from Botany to the Harbour and have approval for kites to sail in the event.

Perth
Redbull L2L race 15-12-2012

2012/2013 Summer
KTA

With sometimes cheap airfares to these countries this may be a good way to mix it up with other riders from around the world.

Email from organiser:
“The racing was a huge success this year and the level is high, we have an amazing team and some great locations, we got wind at every event this season so they are chosen pretty well.

The final schedule has not been confirmed yet but I can give you a preliminary idea if it helps,

November – Japan
December 2nd – kings cup regatta – Phuket
January 15th – Philippines boracay
February - Vigan philippines or Korea
March 15th – Pranburi Thailand
April – pingtan China

This is by no way a final schedule

Would be great to see a few more Aussies involved in the tour, we get internationals from a lot of other countries but not so many from your neck of the woods.

All our events are open to any nationality”

thanks Ric :0)

the link below is a good calendar as well

Note the North American Nationals from 17/07/2012 to 22/07/2012 in San Francisco could be interesting with basically the top world riders riding at home :0)
I haven't check the NOR but would think they keep it open to international riders
entry fee is $195

Tempting :0)

If the word on Sail Sydney re having it in the Harbour is true, is anyone else interested in seeing if they can move us to the week after (with the non-olympic classes) so we can race in Botany instead of the Harbour?

Are there any requirements for entry for the O/S events such as the PKRA ones or are they generally open?

Cheers

Botany would be a 100x better place to race, sydney harbour is very busy and the wind is nowhere near as smooth.

I did sail Melbourne a few years back and we had a range of conditions from light wind to 30 plus knot days. But at that time of year there should be wind to kite.

Yeah I sailed in a regatta down the southern end of the bay last December and the wind was mainly windy from South direction although there were a few drifter days. Imagine there might be a bit of chop if it comes down the bay towards Sandringham, which is I think where the regatta is.

Anyone from the Newcastle,Sydney or near to area keen for a race day on the weekend of the 20th or 21st July? Happy to travel to get some racing in. Time to stop talking and get some actual racing with decent numbers. Let's get an informal regatta day planned so we are all together to workout a way to get a state series running through winter to summer.

Hey racers,
to anyone close enough to drive to lake Macquarie a few of us are looking to race from Marmong point windsurfing club on Saturday. Getting there around 12 with racing as soon as we can. Big southerly forecast so should be an awesome arvo there. There should be at least 4 of us locals so come along to get in on the fun and games trying to tame these beasts. PM me if you need any more info.

Melbourne racing could be bigger than Ben Hur..... from kiteforum.com today

"and the first ever ISAF Sailing World Cup with the inclusion of Kiteboarding as Olympic Event in Melbourne, Australia, conclude the 2012 season".

IKA News:

John Heineken and his sister Erika (both USA, Ozone/Mikes Lab) have taken the 2012 North American Course Racing Championship titles after 12 races.

As usual, the renowned St. Francis Yacht Club, one of the birth places and still a hot spot for kite course racing, hosted an amazing event for the nearly 70 kite racers and 20+ Formula Windsurfers in this combined championship event of the IKA and Formula Windsurfing Class.

The kiteboarding podiums were completed by Bryan Lake (USA, Cabrinha/Mikes Lab) and Adam Koch (USA, Ozone/Mikes Lab) for the men, and Boriana Viljoen (Ocean Rodeo) and Warenta Smutny (North) for the women.

12 races in challenging conditions were held over the course of four days, split into three days of qualifying series and one day of final series. With two discards for the whole event it was crucial for competitors to stay out of trouble and avoid mistakes and equipment failure. Winds up to 30 knots at the top mark situated right under the Golden Gate Bridge and steep choppy seas made the event a challenge for both sailors and equipment.

The next two major events of the International Kiteboarding Association will be the European Championships in La Baule, France (26.-30.09.2012) and the Kite Course Racing World Championships in Cagliari, Italy (02.-07.10.2012), before the South American Championship in Buzios, Brazil (15.-18.11.2012) and the first ever ISAF Sailing World Cup with the inclusion of Kiteboarding as Olympic Event in Melbourne, Australia, conclude the 2012 season.

To anyone who is thinking of entering sail Melbourne

Looking through the notice of race it appears that entry will be $250 each

Somehow I doubt they will lower the fee as now we are included Asa single handed Olympic class.

Just an update on a race happening on lake Macquarie on the upcoming NSW long weekend (29-9-12) it's called the heaven can wait regatta and it's for charity. Basically it's a 24 hour race of laps around the lake but they have a 1 lap dash that a few of us are thinking of entering, weather pending. The website is www.heavencanwait.com.au we will only be doing it if it's a good breeze as its a bloody long way but should be a blast. Usually entering are moths, cats, 505's and sports yachts for the dash. Think we can do them in if we get the right conditions. We have pretty much organized a support boat just for us kites In case of dropping kites at headlands etc. and just want to see if anyone else is keen. Also maybe look at doing a race day on the Sunday with some windward lewards. is there any interest from Sydney riders to come up for a blast? If weather isn't looking great can simply can the dash and do our own courses.

PM me if your keen and need some info.
