Hi, not sure if I'm posting this in the right forum but you all seem to know fins better than most.
I bought the Sector V3 54 for light wind cruising on the river. Do you think I would be better off changing my fins for race fins (and if so what can you recommend) to gain better upwind performance as I still have the original three fins on the board?
I weigh 83kgs.
Thanks.
no
simply put
the sectors don't react well to putting race fins on these boards . We experminted with a set of rista fins on the v3 60 and it was uncontrollable .
If you want to experiment with different fins i would order in the optional sector fins .
i would loan you my sector fins but they are tuttle and the 54 is mini tuttle
Did u sort out your sector fins? I owned until last month the 54cm V3 - but purchased with both the 3 fin carving fins (which I think u have) and the 4 fin more race styled. The 4 fin ones from airush were much better upwind and can get some speed up. Still likes just a little windward edge though and gets a bit slippery when dead flat. Probably your easiest solution. A friend has started playing with the 66cm V3 sector with full on race fins. Tried 38/36 meanlines - foiled up like when trying a hydrofoil for the first time. Controlled this nicely with moving the footstraps forward and was a comfortable ride then, with good upwind. However probably better with slightly smaller fins and just got in 32/30 K43 Techtonics that will try next. The latest Aguera slalom board (60cm wide) is recommended with late 20s length fins for a tri setup and sniff of windward rail. I would imagine if you try any longer tri fins in your 54cm you would be looking at less than this.
