Now That Sail Brisbane is done and dusted, any news on dates for Sail Townsville. Would be good to arrange Accommodation so that all the competitors can be close together.
hope it will blow strong for this event :)
It will be great for spectators racing in front of The Strand Promenade.
If its SE we have to move a bit further into the bay. East winds would be perfect to race in close to the beach.
Keen for August/Sep ![]()
As long as there is somewhere for gear to be stored?
Carting boards up and down a multi storey building wouldn't be fun, especially if we didn't get to use them again ![]()
maybe we can talk to the Townsville Sailing Club for storage? the club house is at the begining of the strand = not far at all
Jordan and crew should be able to transform a trolley into a kite-racing gear buggy to transport the gear down to the kite-beach on the strand ;0)
Otherwise maybe Marvs SUPs trailer?
just a quick update on Sail Townsville dates. KBR will be from Friday 30th August to Tuesday 3rd of September and we do presentation with all others together.
Sounds good?
presentation is on same day- Tuesday with all other classes together including F18 and youth champs and open dinghy and maggie island race week.
Should be pretty good.
cool
This will make a good trip north for us all during winter
Keep us informed on the accomodation
Hopefully we will see a few new faces there this regatta who have all been thinking about kiteracing for a while ![]()
yea Ric agree the next generation of kiteracers in aussie.
hope we see the NZ crew there too including Torrin. Maybe he can train us up last event before the worlds
yeww
NOR will be out soon and rego follow straight away.
i think we will get few guys from overseas. The Philo guys Ken and Bom are keen, PNG racers..
hopefully lots of new aussie guys on raceboards.
One of my mates and I who have just started on our race boards were planning to go to Sail Townsville.. We are mainly doing it for fun and are quite happy to compete for last/second last at this stage.. we both have 2013 boards that are IKA registered but we both have 2012 kites that aren't on the IKA list.. Will this be an issue for Sail Townsville?? I wasn't planning to get new kites till next summer when 2014 gear is out..
hi guys I am thinking of driving up to Townsville for this event. anyone keen to join me. will be leaving from Gladstone.
Why is the entry fee for kiters more than other fleets? Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to pay for quality run regattas. I'm just hoping there is going to be something extra for the kiters?
Interesting, perhaps they figure we cost more to host?
rashy, more rescue boats, drink more beer, get a bigger trophy!
Maybe they organised special onsite storage at additional cost!
Maybe when Marvin comes back he might check it out, either way I doubt it is a typo
if you already have a number with Yachting OZ or ISAF you could use that but as mv said it doesnt really matter.
its going to be a top event :)
first points for next year.
Worlds will most likely be in Soma Bay. The 2013 African champs were epic. unreal conditions for kite racing
Looking at the NOR it refers to YA's SR5.01 which requires us to wear pfd's.
What do the regular racers here wear, I have not had to use one kiting before?

anywhere in australia you have to wear a pfd for racing. just pfd 1,2 or 3. some guy even use an impact vest from wakeboarding.
hey guys i just got word that the price giving/closing ceremony for all Sail Townsville classes wil be on Magnetic Island on Tuesday the 6th at an amazing resort.
what a nice way to finish the event! hope most guys flying out wed morning!
So far there are four of us staying in a three bedroom joint at the place below for Sail Townsville.
Other units still available:
S2 which contains 1 queen bed & 2 single beds
S4 containing 1 Queen bed, 1 double & 1 single
I believe these are 2 bedroom units and they are self contained for $120 per night.
I spoke to a Terri there yesterday and she said they would waive the $10 per person per night fee for us.
This is half the distance to the sailing club from what I can gather compared to the Aquarius at only about 500m and on the strand.
I asked her to hold the 2 units above till tomorrow arvo, just mention "Ric Black's email" so she will book the units;)

nice rick let his charm work
we will have some international guys at Sail Townsville, hopefully we see some known kiwi faces too..
Are you the international guy Marv? :)
international local ;)

Hi all,
Just looking at the notice of race and it says we have to be members of a YA affiliated club and have a YA silver card.
Does our AKSA membership cover this or do I need to rush out and join the local sailing club?
Thanks

Pretty sure this was to ensure you have insurance, but I am now sure that aksa comes under the YA now anyway.
if not Joining a local club as a social member got me a silver card and was only $35!
