Hey everyone, if you are into kiteracing or interested come down to Mount's Bay Sailing Club on Saturday around lunchtime. Racing starts at 2:30pm for raceboards.

MBSC have their open day this saturday, would be great to show our appreciation to the club and head down a little earlier for any speeches that welcome kiteracers as a fleet.

Great little club, super friendly and cheap to join with no nomination fee. 21 races for the season.

More details to come soon about the open day as I hear them. Looks like there is some wind forecast as well.

I'll be there around 12:30pm to chat with other kiters and sailers.

Cheers
Dale

Update on Racing tomorrow;

Kiteboard racing starts at ~1445hrs
Briefing at 1300hrs
Speeches at 1345hrs for the open day
presentations 1700hrs

galley open at 1100hrs
bar open 1130hrs

Everyone is welcome to come down for a beer and feed (family friendly) and to look at gear and talk with the the riders. Tomorrow racing will be for those with experience in kiteboard racing as the conditions will be westerly, which is cross off & is not recommended for beginner racers)

You are welcome to park just outside the front gates and make your way to the grassed area.

thongs/shoes required for upstairs presentations

Please bring buoyancy vest and numbered rashie, (bring spares if you have any) and don't forget your start watch.

We are hoping for 2 races after the yachts have started.

If anyone is interesting in kiteracing but hasn't done any before, we are after a couple of volunteers to help on the start boat and safety boat.
please PM me your details, great view from the boat. The boats are leaving shore around 1400hrs, if you could come down and make yourself known to me, that would be fantastic. I'm sure we can look after you with some beer and food.

Sat was a little tricky with the westerly wind and the front that came through in the river. I was thinking of Marc a bit with that wind direction! Not ideal. However it was great to kick off the season.

The first race of the season is this sunday 13th. Race starts at 1430. There should be a solid group of about 10 kiters down there. Come down and with your gear or just check it out! Exciting!

check out perth kite racing collective on facebook if your after regular updates.

Racing starts at ~2:30pm, come down to chat, if you have a raceboard your welcome to join in, or else you might be able to go out on the start board to see all the action up close.

For more info please contact either myself or Torvar Mirsky (MRT)

Last week was great fun, the Perth racing collective are all very friendly and willing to advise you on getting started, gear choices and other equipment.

Ps- you must have WAKSA insurance, equivalent insurance and all racers must wear a pfd. You'll find us setting up at the club around lunchtime.

Cheers
See you Sunday.

Away this week so will be back in a fortnight's time. Plenty of time to dig up the old start watch and learn how to turn around without getting wet!

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm keen to give a race board a go to see if its something I'd like to get into.
Where in Perth are spots / clubs to do so?

Oceanic's kite racing is on at Leighton at the moment try and get down there if you can, Top 5 in the world are there racing. Racing is usually at Mounts Bay Sailing club on Sunday afternoons. And off Leighton beach on Thursday afternoons. Join the face book page - Perth kite racing - and Australian kite raceing - posting for upcoming races are updated to there weekly.

You will just need to get yourself -

Kites (race type are better for going faster and higher upwind).
1 x race board
1 x PFD (personal flotation device) Type 2 or 3
1 x stop watch or race timer watch for starts
And a big smile

Also Mellville beach and Leighton beach are the two most popular locations for guys getting out and training when it's sea breeze. Just talk to anyone with a race board and they will get you in the loop.

What he said
But today the L2L is on, so you will be able to talk to plenty of racers before 3pm who will be hanging around the beach waiting for the mass of kite rcers to turn up.
We might get some more racing in after 4.30
we will be doing more tomorrow from about 12.
But like he said, start ask anyone with a race board questions and you will get advice ;)
