The below info was sent to me some time ago by a PKRA organiser when I asked about course racing events next year that where closer to Australia, eg Vietnam and Noumea, all good places to plan a holiday ![]()
Hi Ric
With the inclusion of the kite course racing into the Olympics, the IKA wants to ban kite course racing from all the PKRA events, and keep the kiteracing only on the sailing world cup events as Sail Melbourne, where all the sailing Olympic classes race on the same venue. Therefore unless riders press the IKA to change its policies I don't see any more kite racing events on the Professional World Circuit.

If this is true I think some noise needs to be made to the IKA about it before it becomes reality.
I know nothing about the politics behind these organisations and can only guess what purpose it would serve if there was not allowed to be any PKRA world tour race events held in conjunction with other kitesurf events unless the IKA has done some deals with ISAF and dont want a competing world tour.
This would also rule out any future PKRA events held in Australia.
Is PKRA opperating under control of IKA and can they dictate to PKRA what to do?
Even though the reality is most of us would not attend to many international events anyway due to the costs involved it would still be nice to have some options closer to Australia to mix it up with some international riders.
Maybe there is nothing in it and it will all work out if left to the powers to be?
Personally I reckon the PKRA will hold events in places that are more kite friendly than ISAF will, and hell more events equals more racing![]()
Yea thats not a good thing!
In general the more races the better and the closer to us the better.
PKRA is the longest and most established tour in the world and their events are awesome! I just followed the event in Venezuela via live coverage and it was awesome.
IKA is under ISAF so i guess they have a say to what counts towards ISAF world ranking and such.
Pretty sure the PKRA Racing will stand for this season because the races are happening.
Australian kite racers - we better start pulling up our socks as the big boyz will be in Melbourne racing November 2012 if no PKRA racing in 2013. No more hiding in this Aussie back water anymore as we will see real kite racing in Melbourne and yar better be fast if you want to be in top 50. ![]()
