'Sail Sandy' held at Sandringham Yacht Club each year, will be hosting its first kiting regatta.
Where: Sandringham Yacht Club
When: October 20th and 21st
Still figuring out the insurance issues,
full cover will be required.
The Kites will be on their own race course so we don't have to worry about other boats in the way.
The regatta will be governed by the ISAF racing rules of sailing appendix BB.
Notice of race will be available tomorrow at syc.com.au

As far as insurance do you know if being a member of AKSA is enough for racing?
I did send them an email via their contact on the web site but no reply 
From what I know the AKSA insurance is only public liability insurance that will cover if your kite damages something else ie gets caught in the power lines
And the yachting Australia insurance is different again covering if you damage or injure another competitor.
That is as it stands as far however the kiting is not covered under yachting Australia. And yachting Australia is speaking to their insurance company Oamps who are speaking to their underwriters to get kite racing covered.
This is how I see it at the moment
However I am not sure what insurance we need to run races and be 100% covered
If anyone knows more please fill me in
Would be a shame we have to pay again if we already have Public liability cover with our aksa membership because one organisation doesnt recognise the other 
I am sure it should be OK as every kiting event you enter Aksa membership is required for this very reason.
Surely YA will recognise our own national bodies insurance cover!
You would have thought YA would recognise us.
I work at a Yacht Club as a sailing manager and whilst I am very keen for kite racing to grow and expand.
YA are a bunch of money grabbing twits. We do not need to be part of them! They will just be someone else to pay money too. We already have our State Organisations Like WAKSA who do a great job, Then we have AKSA who are the national body. If we have Yachting australia and then their State bodies like Yachting WA
It will cost us all more money for no more gain.

Not sure about entries yet, I know there are a few people around Melbourne that are keen.
However the insurance bull**** is holding us all up. If we want to race out of yacht clubs and events like sail Melbourne we will more than likely need to become yachting Australia members.
The future of kite racing will be at yacht clubs, they have the infrastructure all set up and readiy to go, a strong volunteer base, meaning they have the race officers with the knowledge of how to properly set a course, the rescue boats and drivers.
The best thing would be that our aksa membership had an optional extra, the extra would register the kiters that wanted to race with yachting Australia. Meaning that we would have full insurance (provided we are included into the policy which is getting re-written mid September) and would not have to join a particular yacht club and could travel from event to event knowing that we are fully covered in the case of anything going wrong.
That's just my thoughts
If anyone from aksa is reading this is there anyway that this is possible?

I don't have too much background on the insurance situation but just a thought re your idea around having the optional extra from the AKSA policy: Given that we are looking to be recognised in sailing events wouldn't we be better to get the YA membership and reduce the insurance on the AKSA membership (or remove depending on the limitations of the YA insurance)?
That would be good.
from what i know normally you need to be part of a yacht club to become a yachting australia member. so it would be good if AKSA set themselves up as a club and had that extra available to racers.
i am sick of all this logistics rubbish i just want to start racing
