Thumbs Up

NO I did not have a race with them
But I recently used my canopy mounted GoPro to help with some filming during the Moth nationals on Lake Macquarie.

Not only did it give me a reason to get amongst it, also it shows a kite has many other uses beside fun in the wave, freestyle, snow or race

It probly also open the eyes of a few sailors, officials, sponsors and spectators that have not been up close to a kite race board and showed our sport in a good light

It also helps break down the barriers between sailors and officials that are used to seeing freestyle kiting and all the crashes we have trying new tricks etc.
They realise after having it around in close quarters that a race setup is a completely different craft than other styles and not as bad as they first thought

It was also interesting to see their races only took about 20min for the top guys.
Was also interesting the huge difference in times between the top guys and the rest of the fleet. Having so many full time sailors, current gold and silver medalist, current world and national and Americas cups racers probly has a lot to do with it

From a regatta point of view they have all the usual racing over 6 days, 3 to 4 per day.
They had a lay day built in (which was used)
They had a dash for cash for the top 10 after 2 days racing with a very small course set close to the club for the spectators for some hi speed thrills and spills.
Overall a good regatta.

Check out some of the clips below.
