Sail Melbourne would like to confirm that, in light of the decision by ISAF on 10 November 2012 to remove Kite-boarding from the Olympic Class line up for 2016 Olympic Games, kite boarding WILL continue to be embraced as part of its Invited Class Program during the ISAF Sailing World Cup - Sail Melbourne, to be hosted at Sandringham Yacht Club, 2-8 December 2012.

As a key addition to the invited class program, Sail Melbourne's first in class Race Management Team will continue to provide a competitive platform for kite boarder from around the world. Racing Formats will remain the same, entailing course racing and a final-day medal race as originally planned, in line with the IKA Class Rules 2012.

With more than 60 entries, this year's kite boarding at Sail Melbourne is set to be an amazing competition and we look forward to welcoming you to Melbourne in December!

Def hope sail Melbourne goes off without a hitch, being the first ISAF world cup for the season there will be a lot of VIP in attendance no doubt with their eyes on this new sport of Kite racing they find has been thrust upon them, hopefully it is still staged in front of the club and the spectators see all the excitement, thrills, crashes and fast sailing.

At 1200 bucks a table I think I will skip having dinner with the boys, they will have to come down and get some sand between their toes to mingle this kite board racer

hi guys,

any idea of the wind & weather conditions we should expect? according to windfinder.com wind stats, december should be pretty windy from the South

the scary part is the 16deg celsius water... freezing for a north QLD softy like me...:0)

if anyone has got good info or website for Melbourne, I'm keen to get some info :0)

thanks heaps and see yous very soon!

I have sailed out of sandy my whole life, we use Fawkner Beacon, its a little offshore but reads very similar winds in nearly all wind directions.
Use this site, www.baywx.com, it gives readings from all around the bay and Gippslands as well, even water temperature for the softies! btw it should be around 20 degrees in dec, looking at the history on the site above

In terms of forecasts: www.bom.gov.au/australia/meteye/
Good, mostly accurate forecast

You will most probably race in the arvo due to generally stronger winds,
www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/climate/cgi_bin_scripts/windrose_selector.cgi
This shows the probability of the strength and direction

good luck!

I sacked my personal coach 9 days ago cause he was not working out, and this is just another example of his incompetence and not doing his job properly!
