Is it correct to assume that going fast is more about riding the fins properly?
If this assumption is correct, does that mean my board does not necessarily need to be top of the line, but more importantly that my fins are?

The board does play a part in the whole lot. Namely the rail shape, especially when cranking into a gybe.

And the rockerline of the board, as well as the footstrap and fin placement underneath also make a big difference to things like how flat they like to sit, where your weight is balanced and where they settle down in terms of pitch.

So no, you can't really go and get a cheap old board, stick some amazing fins in it and go fast. But by the same token, you can't really get an amazing board, put cheap fins in it and go fast. You kind of need both to work together

From a fin manufacturer:

"The fins for different width boards are built to correspond with the leverage the board has over the fins. The wider the board the more leverage. So the fins that are right of the 70cm with be difficult to control and slow on the 59cm."

The same as what you said Rhys.
