i got a brand new f-one foil. The first time I used it I couldn't remove the front wing. It is stuck in position.
These are are a little different to most with the front wing slotting into the fuselage/mast. The fuselage and stabiliser is another piece. It's all carbon. There is a long rod with a thread on it that holds it all together.
Ive tried a bunch of things including soaking it in cole water.
Does anyone else have this foil? Surely other owners have experienced this.
Just be careful. I have only heard the opposite, that the thread strips so you can't get it back together or front or rear wing detach.
so however you get it loose be careful
Sounds like a total pain. It sounds like the carbon faces have bound together. I'd be taking the threaded parts out completely and flooding it with WD 40 and applying pressure whilst tapping with a rubber hammer. A second pair hands and a vice or clamps with leather jaw covers would help. Be patient and gentle or you will damage it.
Thanks. Soaking with WD40 at the moment. I'll hapily leave it together for the next month or so until I have some better equipment to try and get it apart.
Hi - if it is that nw & U spent decent dollars at a local shop - sounds like return with a timeline - and a demo to use in the mean time if they can't fix it pronto!! - ![]()
Otherwise my only experience is metal on metal + heat.. bingo
THIS IS A POSSIBLE BUT HOPEFULLY OTHERS WILL GIVE ADVICE..
NO DIRECT HEAT
HEAT in WATER = 100C -- tap with a rubber mallett
If I was working through this .. I would take as much advise as possible but I would be following heat option..
HEAT in OIL 10 degree increments I would not go over 150C ---- 120C would be my desperate point
High temp oil so 120C would but ok but would definitely keep anything carbon away from direct heat. Use cooking thermometer be careful.
Heat trick relies on different expansion rates between 2 pieces.
cheers AP
Thanks. Soaking in WD40 didnt do anything. ill try the boiling water next. Such a shame as it is such a nice looking foil. And this was the very first time I used it!!
I got this off by the way.
I used a climbing tape sling to secure the front wing to a post. Then used static rope connected to the mast/fuselage and a three way pully connect to an opposing pole. At first it wouldn't come loose but with a jiggle it popped loose.
Now I use electrical tape at the join to stop it seizing.
I did did a lot of googling so thought this might be helpful to someone else.

Good work.... it's a bit hard to visualise but I gather you rigged opposing straps , one with a tightening ratchet. Tefgel is purpose made to stop seizing and corrosion and works a treat.... may be a sounder solution than tape.
Correct. Pretty much. but self made with climbing gear.
This is a carbon on carbon thing. The carbon wing slots into the car it fuss large then is tightened by a bolt. The bolt wasn't stuck. The two carbon pieces had fused together. The electrical tape sits between the two carbon pieces so they can't stick together.
