Hey,
Anyone got any tips for dealing with choppy water on a race board? I am new to riding a race board, I was getting to grips with it on my 2012 Cabrinha but that got stolen and I now have an airush monaro v4 but my first few sessions have been a real struggle.
There isn't really much in the way of flat water where I kite, more often than not its pretty choppy so I don't have much choice than to work it out.
I'm basically getting thrown all over the place, either dropping backwards in to the water or being thrown over the top of my board? I have tried playing about with foot strap position but to be honest I don't really know where to start.
Also when people use the term "drive into the fins" what exactly is the movement you do to achieve this? Is it more heel pressure or pushing more through your toes?
Any tips welcome, i'm totally hooked on riding this board I just want to improve so I can really ride it properly.
Cheers
David
Personal view:
1. Board - must keep flat - get thrown off if windward rail catches.
2. Weight - get it out and back - will help with chop.
3. Fins - I actually think this is most likely where you are having issues with the Monaro V4. If you are on the stock fins that come with the board - they are **** and foil up and throw you off. I still find Ristas the best ones I have tried for stable easier riding - with little or no compromise on speed. you will be shocked at the change.
4. Footstraps - try moving them about. Sometimes more front foot pressure or moving the front straps slightly forward will stop the board slap and give more control.
cheers for the tips, thats interesting what you say about the fins. I didn't think they looked much good, the trailing edge has not even been cut straight on one of them. Luckily I had a spare set from my other board that got stolen, i'll try and give them a blast this weekend. I was going to give them a go cause I found my old board much easier to ride and the board shape is very similar but the fins are totally different. Hopefully it will help.
