I'm looking at getting away from LEI kites for foilboarding and running foilkites only and have been looking at the Chrono V2.
I have a Sonic FR 11m and do enjoy the performance but am not interested in racing and I'm looking for the ability to jump big when twin tip riding as well.
The Sonic is great but has its little quirks, and certainly doesn't like to jump the way I'm used to..... Which brings me to the Chrono V2.
I'm looking at getting either a 7m or 9m to go with an 11m or 13m, After selling the Sonic.
Can anybody who has ridden the Chrono V2 advise me on the performance overlap? At the moment I am perfectly powered on a 9m LEI in 12-17 knots and my 11m Sonic in 10-15 knots. I would like to be able to ride from 7-21 with two kites.
I'll be doing some travel and 2 foil kites will be easier to move around with the board.
To me the Ozone looks more user friendly, Has a better bar setup, is supposed to feel and handle more like a LEI kite.... But this is only based on reviews, videos, and product hype seen so far.
Any opinions based on experience would be much appreciated.
Chrono V 2 is inbetween the V1 and Speed4 for performance. It looses some of the fire breathing dragon for more robust bridles and increased stability. Its bloody stable and launches real nice. The 9m V2 is similar in wind range to a 10m ozone edge.
I haven't ridden the sonic but I guess its performance is closer to R1, Chrono 1.
To be honest I prefer the fire of the R1 and V1 chrono. But the bridles a so damn thin. I'll probably go for V2 chrono next up. I have 12m V1. On a TT I'd be using the 9m at 20 knots.
How well does the V2 jump?
The Sonic jumps well but stalls easily and dumps you suddenly.
I see on the Ozone videos, the guys are reefing the bar in and holding all the way to touchdown like an LEI, The Sonic just dumps you hard after stalling at the top.
I'm also not a fan of the thin lines and bridles for everyday non race use.

I never got to jump the v2. I was flying it in a kitebuggy.... I lie, I did a jump. But it can't be compared to a water jump. My buddy who owns the 13m and 9m V2's 18m, 12m, 7m, 5m V1 and 6m r1 says that the V2 has more lift than the V1.... The v1 as stupid amounts of lift!
Your chocking your sonic by pulling the bar all the way in for the whole jump.
Send the kite. Set a slow redirect to slowly arc the kite across the zenith. Then let the bar out on the way down. Then just before landing redirect hard and bar in hard. you will get a pillowy soft landing every time.

You can order a set of Chrono V1 bridles made from the V2 bridle material

Cheers for the video Plummet, I am aware of how easy it is to choke these kites and that the techniques are almost the opposite of LEI kites.
I have found that building lots of speed prior to liftoff is critical to gaining height.
Anyway I feel that the Sonic is not suited to allround use and that the V2 might be better for me.
You might want to look at the speed 4 aswell. That is a sweet kite for all round use.

No white beaches here on the west coat. I have to travel 5 hours to the east coast. Yourl get white sandy beaches there.

Sorry pllumment, going to have to call B@LL$#it on your review of CronoV2 not having the fire beathing performance.
Next time you do 33knots on any kite send on the gps tracks over for a review.
5x10sec avg of over 30knots is massive!!!!

Small kite, high AR, short chord: easy to over-muscle the bar and stall it. Adjust your technique: finesse the bar. Sheet in as much as you need, but no more fly the kite and let it fly.
The foil kites are great for racing and longer runs etc but I've been using BRM clouds for the last 8 months now and for my style of riding they are superior in every way.
My 9m stays in the air until about 3-4 knots and unlike a foil it won't turn into a big bag of water. I get 100% depower with 20cm of bar travel and the steering response allows for one handed effortless kite flying.
Thank all for the advice, I just needed to get the right gear to suit my riding.
