Heard this interview on the radio this morning and thought it was interesting:

I find this very intresting.

Same thing happened to the Catamaran for London. The second vote never changed things. Catamaran sailors world wide were in uproar. They took it on the chin and spent the next few years making sure it was reienstated.

Catamarans are back for Rio. They had an evaluation regatta where they put all the choices up against each other then made the final decision. The NACRA 17 was chosen as the boat of choice. ( Not my favorite choice) NO Court cases, NO bagging the other sport, ( Match Racing)

Windsurfers have accept the decision, Work out whats wrong with what they have EG Differect style or class, Then try again.

All they can see now is the RSX is the best option. I think they may of become just too complacent.

I dont believe that NO one new they were voting one in one out.

We will see what happens.

How embarrassing is this for both sports

I did have to have a good laugh at this statement in the interview tho. I think it is Brett Morris (president of the Australian Windsurfing Association)

"No one really expected it to be a serious challenge because the sport of kitesurfing doesn't really exist" !!!!????? WTF what planet is this guy from?

But it is sad to see the misinformation that is flying around on this subject. You only need to have a look over on the poley's forum and other kiteforums to see there are a lot of people getting very passionate about it and making big statements but don't know their arse from their elbows.

Yah considering we see about 28 kiters to 1 windsurfers at most off the beach locations around OZ it was a bit odd.
And I have never ever seen a photo of windsurfers in one place like I have seen of the huge number of kiters in Tarrifa!

But I am sure he meant to be more specific and say Kite course racing, which here in OZ is only in it's infancy but will quickly take hold and gain in popularity to be eventually accepted by the sailing community as a fast and exciting form of the sport of sailing.

Kites in Tarifa are great! But you should check out Defi Wind in France: 1000+ windsurfers on the start line!

Or hang out at Lago Di Garda (lake Garda) in italy on any given summers day down at riva or tobole and youll find hundreds of windsurfers. Everyday, it's really an amazing site to see. I'm sure there woul be as many if not more kiters if it wasn't illegal by their state law, can only kite there outside of summer times. Crazy.

Windsurfing is a massive world wide sport as is kiting. I'm happy to see kiting in the Olympics feel for the windsurfers but look at the cats, just kept going and now they have a class back in. Awesome work. The windsurfers shouldn't blame the liters or attack our numbers or racing, All anger should be thrown towards IOC telling them sailing needs more medals then we would have both in.
