Hi guys,

I am wondering if anyone here knows a bit about the fin box construction of the Airush Sector V1.5.
I bought this board a while back second hand, it was hardly used. Not long after that I noticed some hairline cracks around some of the fin boxes (never hit anything!). I tightened the fins and smeared some sikaflex around the fin boxes to prevent water ingress.

Now, that I have been riding this board quite a bit the cracks have become worse.

Does anybody know how the fin box area is constructed? Will the board take on water through these cracks? Any hints on how to improve the situation?

Thanks a lot!

Sidenote: Interestingly there is very little info on the Sector 5 out there, anybody ridden it?

I have the exact same board, same version, same problem. I'd say mine cracked even worse. I took the fins off and use some Solarez, followed the instructions closely and it did a decent job keeping the water from coming in with a nice glass finish.

I think if you want to replace the fin boxes you're looking at an expensive repair, probably not worth it.

Yes, fin box replacement def. not worth it. So you basically smeared the Solarez around the fin box, covering the cracks? Did you sand it back? I think any type of covering putty would have to be able to take some flex, otherwise it will just crack?

It would be good to know in what type of material the boxes are embedded in. If they were stuck just into the porous foam core the board will take on water no doubt.

Shoddy design...Surely they cracked those boxes when riding and testing their prototypes. I hope their other and newer boards are better.

Have you weighed your board to check for water ingress? I think mine weighs 5.4kg
