Trying to figure out if I should try and do this event in Formula Race...but can't really judge how serious the whole thing is.
I have an old New Wind race board (5'5" with 8" fins) that I can ride reasonably well but which is a fair bit smaller than modern race boards and Cabrinha switchblade kites. I have done a lot of racing in sailing classes so understand the rules and such, but have never raced a kite.
So, is this the kind of event where I can come along with my old gear and have a crack, or will I just get in the way of the more serious guys?
Also, does anyone know if there's any weekly/club type racing in Melbourne that I could go and have a go at over the next few weeks?
Any thoughts / guidance would be great.
CHeck out sandringham and brighton clubs, both have been running alternating races most weekends over summer, not sure where they are at.
Also give Hudo a call at SHQ he will know
There is also a melbourne racing FB page, get on it if that were you live

You certainly wont get in the way at the nationals, you may be surprised at just how much better the new gear is ;)
Keep in mind the race can only go for 10min after the first guy has finished or a maximum of 30min.
There are always other learners and slower guys to match up with, so it's all good fun ![]()
Thanks WDRIC, sounds good... i'll try and get a few races in and maybe can score a finish at nationals :)
Americas Cup Sailor registered to race at kite nationals. Pretty good prep for the cup i reckon.
id be keen to foil on a AC72 myself ;)
