Hi all,
as I am trying to get a race series started in Melbourne I have been looking into this for a while and this is the short of it.
- yachting Australia membership currently does not cover kite racing insurance
- YA have addressed they need this to change, quickly, YA has told their insurance OAMPS this is a priority.
-OAMPS is speaking to their underwriters at the moment, to include kite racing into the policy.
All going to plan new legislation and kite racing insurance will be covered under a yachting Australia membership mid September!
Also if you know anyone who wants to race in Melbourne get them to join Facebook.com/syckiteracing or email me at syckiteracing@gmail.com
Happy kiting
Joel
I did send an email to aksa a week or so ago, but no reply yet
There is racing mentioned in our policy for members, but appears to be specific event only!
Perhaps someone with legal knowledge could comment on whether it would cover other event?
Hi Guys
Just checking up on our insurance cover for racing.
I see some events are listed in the policy.
As we go forward with the racing there will be other events that crop up that we will also need coverage for.
I see in this dochttp://www.aksa.com.au/Resources/Documents/Insurance/38A288808PLB_RN.pdf
That on the second page there is a reference to
POLICY EXCLUSION 25 IS DELETED (PARTICIPATION RISK)
Could somebody please confirm if we are covered while participating in any race we choose to enter that is run by a local yacht or sailing club that is affiliated to Yachting Australia or Aksa or ISAF or IKA or KTA or PKRA or KTE or a local shop putting on an event such as the Kitepower Cabrinha summer race series ?
I note that in the notice of race for the upcoming ISAF sail Melbourne event it requires each participant to show such evidence:
21 INSURANCE
Each participating boat shall present a valid insurance certificate showing proof of third-party liability coverage of at least AUD $5,000,000 (recommended $10,000,000) (or equivalent) per incident.

HI Guys
I am the sailing Manager for Fremantle Sailing Club in WA.
I have also been looking at the insurance aspect. The Insurance you get with a Yachting WA "Silver Card" Is a personal insurance where as the Insurance issued by WAKSA via the AKSA is for Third Party only.
As a Club FSC have tried to include Kite Racing with our dinghy winter series. Unfortunatly so far every event we have tried to run has been a no wind event certainly less than 6 knots.
We will keep trying.
I was under the impression if you have your silver card (personal accident insurance) public liability insurance is covered by the club holding the regatta through YA. I guess third party is also required in case you injure another competitor although we have never needed it sailing other classes.
