Ive got my twins boy & girls 16th birthday coming up & they want to have a disco in the shed .
So i want a playlist of songs that are appropriate for them.
Most of my music would not be appropriate I'm thinking to get kids up & dancing .
Although Im sure a couple of rolling stones songs might just be slipped in to make mum happy Im feeling that could be pushing the limit.
So i thought I would ask all the seabreezers that have there finger on the pulse of modern /popular music for suggestions.
I reckon about 4hrs worth should be able to do it & if I'm smart enough i can have it all on computer & just turn to on so nobodies mucking around & we have 3hrs of silence & 1 hrs of music that they can dance to .
I did consider that there will be some older style music the kids would know from movies & parents that are great dance songs & just want some other opinions because i can see just like cleaning up the shed this will all be left for me to do & i would like to do it properly & give them a great party as they are really good kids that I'm proud of .
Cheers

You could get SandS or Cisco to come around and DJ...........that way the party will be over in about a minute

You need to find out what style of music they like, no point playing heaps of Drake if their not into it

If they don't really have a preference yet, then just download the last couple of yrs of NOW, or So Fresh, basically just top forty mixed style albums and play them

I would throw some ol crap on as well, a lot of the older music is still a good time, can bring people together better than todays style, they will enjoy you bopping around a bit as well

What are the kids going to do?????

Just hang in the shed, drinking cordial and dancing.................good luck

If you have good internet hook a lappie up to a boom box. Can go you YouTube's music channel and choose playlists of all the latest stuff, or pick and choose what they want. Cues up similar songs to ones chosen. Really quite good. Plus you could put it n big screen if u really want to go all out. You can also buy pretty cheap of eBay disco lights that slave off the beat. (60 bucks)

A variation would be to buy a chromecast & audio splitter, about $65 if you shop around then you can cast music from any phone/tablet/etc onto any old stereo you have. Then just find other people's 16th birthday playlists on spotify or whatever.

Your kids might have own tastes, maybe ask them the artists they like and pick songs from those artists that seem suitable. But Pink and Taylor Swift are popular with most females. Wouldnt have a clue what boys like. The other day I asked my son if he wants a video night for his birthday. The response was, no one does that anymore Mum and no one even uses the word video. Woops I got old.

Lorde
Rihanna
Taylor Swift
Maroon 5
Iggy Azalea
Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars ~ Uptown Funk
Robin Thicke ~ Blurred Lines
Nick Jonas

I know a fair amount of 16 to 18 year olds, and that's what I hear, whether I like it or not.
Actually Rihanna and Lorde are pretty good, they have their moments.
Good luck with the dancing, some girls still have cooties at 16.

16 eh?
It's about time they were introduced to a bit of culture. Real culture.

Start with some Fleetwood Mac,.. say Rhiannon, Tusk, Sara, Go your own way, Gypsy, Seven Wonders, and a few more that I can't think of right now. All great stuff and always will be.

And when you've finished those, play them again.

In another twenty years, they will say,.. "Remember that party we had for our 16th,,. and dad played all that great music,.."

Agreeing with kat75, by 16 they might have developed their own taste - I had an older sister so I certainly had my own tastes by then and they weren't top 40s. I liked The Cult, The Cure, Violent Femmes, Phil Collins Dead Kennedies, Radio Birdman, Paul Simon etc.. even when I was 14 I was into hair metal like Poison, Alice Cooper, GnR, Def Leppard..

You could hire a jukebox from a party shop. As above ask for a selection of modern music, say 200 songs and also get about 50 popular 80's and 90's music.

It will play on its own and people can also choose. Gives the options to the kids.

The older stuff is great the next day when your cleaning up.

Get a couple of their friends to bring their iTunes library over on a Laptop or tablet... Easy to create playlists or just let it run on shuffle. Run the headphone outlet to your AUX in - a $15 cable at JB HiFi or DSE will do it.

The kids will have fun selecting their own songs. And can plug in their phones etc where they all have more music...

My son's GF did this for his surprise 17th and it went off really well...

I'm going to check with kids but I know girl likes Taylor Swift & pink & they both love hip hop & actually do the dancing for school but these suggestions will give me some cred.
I've done disco party in shed last time the kids did the we will all plug in stuff & I had a wall of tv just because I got all the cords & stuff I'm not sure if I'll do that again .
I listen to tripple m classic rock digital radio & I reckon its got some really good party music & it makes me dance on the ladder so unlike last time I sort of want really seamless party music that makes you get up & dance.
So I suppose should start making a play list.
1 Pink lets get this party started .
(I think I might keep the cramps lets get f*cked up till there 18)

Yeah, righto....

If that did happen the kids just might surprise you and get into some "real" music. I was in my 18 yo son's car with him and he hooked up his iPhone to the stereo and played The Horses by Daryl Braithwaite.

I asked him if he really liked that and he said yes and added that I would be surprised to know how many of his contemporaries did too.

Next up he played Paint It Black by the Stones.

Best idea for you actionmax is provide the nice though controlled venue with food and appropriate drink and let them run the party and music. I would draw the line at "nigga nigga mo**** kick yo ass rap" and Eminem.

You might like to try some of this. Popular with the youngsters and quite uplifting.

Hooking Youtube into your stereo is a great way to go.

Throw in some Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, Kanye, Lil Wayne, Drake, Bliss n Eso, Hilltop Hoods, Skrillex, Pitbull, Charlie XCX etc for a bit of variety. Hardest thing at a party is keeping everyone having a good time. Too slow and it starts to get boring and everyone leaves. Too crazy and you have Polair, police riot squad and Today Tonight on your door step

In the eyes of a teenage boy, only ugly girls have cooties@16

Im going to slip in MC900ft jesus Hearing voices in my head live at boulder .I like the live version better than the album version .
How do i put a link up for that song ? i think its got the best lyrics ever .

JUst to have a go at the idiot That screamed at me to put shaving cabinet in wall Cant just put it on wall no its got to be recessed at a certain height to F*cking change her mind & lower it to were I said it should go in the first place .Strangely enough she failed to understand that moving the studs putting bulk head around & then having to do it again is not on my agenda .Two nights work gone & now a hole to be filled as well .
I mean it wouldn't be so bad if i didn't get yelled at & called an idiot for wanting to put it there in the first place or if i got an apology but somehow its carrying on like its my fault.
What really gets to me is she watches renovating shows while i renovate .

Ha, no man, your venting doesn't offend me...............however your numerous posts aimed at being directly disrespectful towards me do

Yeah, we sail the central coast, come on up, either budgy or fagton, you would be lucky to have a milfry free sess on the central coast,

Im always out, sailing is a huge part of my life

Im the fit looking one, the one who looks like he still does a lot of training, the one who looks like his had over 160 boxing fights

The one who looks like he was in the military, the one who still bears serious angry from a tough childhood

Im also very good looking, especially when standing next to other central coast bogans

You'll know its me, by the way I look at you, and then you can repeat some of your comments on seabreeze in real life.......that will be fun

Sorry, cant drop the agro, unfortunately the life and difficulties I've had from time to time, you know, the ones you mock, have left me unable to get a peaceful easy feeling, especially around those that feel their entitled life includes looking down on me..............c ya soon???

Ha, regardless of the disrespect you've shown in the name of seabreeze towards me, your welcome to come sailing, I get the feeling your gunna sux at it
so just come and enjoy yourself, you'll need a delta for Budgy, which is redonk flat but very shallow, or canton, you'll need a normal weedie,
