rottnest swim is on tommorrow.
i had to drive a supportboat one year the whole time i thought about sharks. anyway i had this loose dream yesterday that someone got attacked this year it was prettty real and id go as far as to say surreal. i dont want to talk rubbish maybe its just my subconcious mind, maybe im a pussy (i couldnt do it mentally even with all the other people) please be careful if your involved in this swim. hectic dream young crew involved not funny. maybe i am delusional, hope so
Really i think the biggest threat to the swimmers tomorrow will be the crazy boat owners and their spinning propellors...
When sharks start running the City to Surf I will swim to Rotto.
Silly things people do. Windsurfing is way more fun :)

I will say the boats i saw getting towed back into Hillarys today that had broken down before the race even started was disappointing. The race organisers need to clamp down on the quality of boats, one of the boats i saw, the guy asked me what its value was ? I suggested "$1500 if it was going, which it wasn't " 
Jb I usually rate your perspective even if I disagree. I disagree here. My old boat has an old motor and is well maintained. Most of these events are already targeted to the rich (cycle events etc) where the honest battler can't enter because of affordability. I think removing swimmers because the support boat isn't new enough is poor. Some new motors are ex commercial and very tired. Some older motors are well maintained by same owner like mine. Having said that, they need to respect that stretch of ocean and make a calculated decision.

For the record this one was a 4.3 m pride. (very low sides) About a 1970 ish model. The motor was a Jonhson 40hp Manual tilt that had broken down. It had back to back seats and they were ripped. The canopy was also torn mostly through. They didn't even make it to Scarb on the way to the start..Oh and it had four really big guys and a swimmer
Its nothing about price, its more about the actual ability to make it to Rottnest safety.. The word you used that did not apply to this boat is "Well maintained", Nothing wrong with old and in good condition
Another guy came to me on Friday before the even to get it insured and inspected as it hadn't been done yet and he had no insurance. The boat was okay, but the day before the event is really not enough time IMHO for the organisers .

Im not sure i picked it up from Sea Rescue page. I did ask an someone i was talking to yesterday but all he knew was it was at Northport.
I think i have seen it around before and from memory its a Marine line and Yeah a nice looking rig, bungs would be a good guess.

yer but that report says nothing about why it sank . A boat of that condition unless suffering a structural failure which is unlikely points to one possible cause . User error .

Form the horses mouth.
It had some inspection hatches on the back deck that had been fitted that were not so "Water tight". With the load of extra passengers and leaking "water tight" hatches it slowly filled up and the bilge pumps eventually gave up. Honest enough mistake i guess..

Yeah a great effort. They said they took on sponsors to finish the event and felt they needed to complete the task to do the sponsors justice. Great job guys
