Congratulations to FRANK BROWN, MARCELO PRIETO and DONIZETE LEMOS from Team Sol who have broken the Paragliding World Record. They flew 513km from Tacima in the north east of Brazil to land in Monsenhor Tabosa in the state of Ceara on Friday 9 October. The pilots were in the air for 11h20mins after taking off at around 7am. The exact distance is still to be confirmed, and the flights will have to be ratified with the FAI for it to stand as a WR.Glauco Pinto set a new South American hang gliding world record with a 580km flight on the same day.The three paraglider pilots beat the old paragliding world record by 8km – that was set by Nevil Hulett in South Africa in December 2008.The north east of Brazil is famous for big distance flying and attracts pilots from across the world. The sites include Quixada and Tacima and offer a uniquely early start – with thermal activity starting as early as 7am. The flying day lasts until sun set at about 6pm.The Brazilian season is on!Image: the record tracklog from 9 October 2015.Photo: Frank Brown and Donizete Lemos photographed by Marcelo Prieto on their final glide to a world record yesterday.
