Especially when they failed solely by their own accord.
If they retired gracefully on their own terms after a distinguished political career, then fair enough that they comment on the performance of their successors.
But when they get booted by both the electorate and their own party (twice!!) then... nah, had your chance mate and you showed us all you couldn't do it.
If Turnbull is right about all this stuff then why isn't he still there making the big decisions ?

ah, because a political party is a place where you get rolled for not being the most popular. Ability to govern a nation? What's that got to do with it?
Its... like being the most voluminous poster on an internet forum, abusing everyone all the time, starting a seemingly infinite number of offensive topics, being personal in every response, getting more bans then anyone else.... and then campaigning to have it shut down because people aren't being nice to you.
Or trolling the windsurf forums for 10 years, constantly targeting a small number of individuals with nothing relevant to say about anything, then calling for threads to be shut down because you disagree with somebody's opinion in them.
Or being the most awesome Seabreeze.com.au contributor year on year and ... well, OK, there is no "and" in that case, but ya get my drift..

And Keating is also an expert on architecture and urban design.
They were/are politicians (both sides) who love the limelight above all 
Malcolm has an ego like no other. He's full of hatred, bitterness and unfortunately he will always seek media attention. He's an embarrassment to our country. I tune out and change channels whenever he appears in the media. Can do without his bad vibe.

Surely Rudd is at least a much better person to deal with China than whoever is doing it now. Have they not heard about diplomacy and the Asian culture of not losing face? Way to go, antagonize China and wonder why they are targeting all our exports... Rudd would never make that stupid mistake.
I don't know about Keating, but I would argue Rudd is a tonne better than Morrison when it comes to understanding how to relate to China.
