I just bought a boat and looking for good spots long the swan river that I can set the family up with a picnic area and spend the day skiing. Any one know of nice spots with green grass and bbq facilities where I can anchor up on the shore line
Deep water point would be your best bet. But lots of C.U.B. With bigger motors than rain as to be expected
As Grump said, but also with exorbitant parking fee's and high theft rate. Belmont it not as nice or open, but boaters tend to tow the line there (excuse the pun). I'm pretty sure there is also a ski area at Applecross jetty. Might be ok.....
I have to respectfully disagree with the person above who said deep water point, although I would never red thumb. Who says my view is more important than his. But my opinion of deep water point is coming into summer and being an over crowded, recently made smaller, ski area with lots of weekend warriors. It's not safe and anchoring near the grass will see rollers going over your boat. I am not saying deep water point doesn't have it's place, a glassy spring or autumn weekday all to yourself, it's gold. But it's the trigg point of boating areas and outright dangerous. I will pm you. I'm taking my three year old out today and he and I take our boat out just us. Nice quiet ramps... Small drives. Catch some blowfish. Good on you for looking for opportunities for the family!

Another option is to go around the back of Mount Henry to Aquinas Bay. Its pretty sheltered, and because it is a smallish area to ski, you find that not many of the rev heads go there. Occasionally there will be a wake boarder, but they don't go flat out. There is a good sandy beach and grass in front of the boat shed. The water is fairly deep next to the beach, so its all easy. The grass is private property (school), but be respectful, stay close to the water and there shouldn't be a problem. Its a great start up area to get you n your feet, the fam will appreciate the laid back atmosphere, and you will enjoy your time behind the wheel more, not stressing about fast boats moving pretty close to you.
BTW, what boat did you get?

As has been said Deepwater Point and Belmont are the two bigger areas. Aquinas is also a good spot and thats almost the end of a places to park up, picnic and ski in front. Depending on what size boat you have another spot i like that tends to get over looked a lot is out from Claremont yacht club and down to Scotch Boat House. in the above map they call it Lower swan ski area. Theres no spot to picnic, but you can beach start in front of the bamboo. But you tend to need to have everyone on the boat and deep water swap over. They are places you can then motor to and stop and picnic, but no were really close enough to leave gear un attended 
Its also reasonably sheltered in the afternoon breeze..

I just got a quinnie freedom sport 5.3m, good starter boat for family times and fishing . I will definitely take a look down that way. sounds ideal
