Why do we not have daylight savings. We could be out playing till 8 at night. The sun is up so early on summer as it is. How could we get it Put in place?

Not this old can of worms. Queensland is backwards and just uses summer time to reinforce the point.

Katter has 2 seats, maybe address that first. An indictment of the entire population

When I moved from SA to QLD a guy at work (in QLD) told me to set my watch forward half an hour, and my calendar back by 20 years

totally with you kemp90. Try telling toddlers to go back to sleep at 4:30am, doesn't matter if you have blockout curtains they just seem to know if it's light outside, the dawn chorus wakes them. Unless you're a surfer or total early bird there's really not much good about 4:30am that wouldn't be better happening at 5:30am.

I heard a good proposal recently - meet in the middle - ie move the whole east coast forward 30 minutes and abolish daylight savings entirely. No more adjusting 57 clocks twice a year in southern states. No more QLD being backwards. 5am summer sunrise in qld which is much more civilised. win-win I say.

Stupid idea. If you want longer days move north. If you want longer afternoons move south.

Why does SE QLD constantly think they are the only people in this state?

Did we work together Skid?

When I temporarily moved here (many years ago) I was asked why anyone would want to travel, something about comfortable and familiar close to home...

Because the whole state voted on it and we said NO. Theres the history lesson for today lads. If you don't like it go to another place that is better. (If you don't love it leave)

I'm not going to move to Brunei and complain that I can't find a bottleo to get a carton of beer from. Why do so many people move to the Sunshine state and then carry on about how it is so much better where they came from. Just like the old whindgeing POM, or these days its the Kiwis that seem to be moving over and telling everyone how much better it is over there...

what i hear, its Because its a southern idea…thats the truth of it.

thats why Queenslanders won't change.

up here every-time someone tries to debate it,its met with if you don't like it leave.

i hear "if you don't like it leave" line a lot more up here than down brisbane.
but i do here some strong views from southerners that now live in QLD
trying to push their point by insulting and saying how backward QLD'ers are.
i suppose thats why they receive the "if you don't like it Fark off" line.

i would love to have day light savings here,,i don't think it will happen.
why
i believe it would cost politicians seats,,,, not on the border……. up north.

After living with daylight savings my whole life and thinking it was the best thing ever, I moved to QLD.

Now I am moving to NSW, I can't bear the thought of going back to daylight savings.

Daylight savings means you exercise less and work longer hours.

There are two things for me. The first is the fact that I come home in the afternoon when the sun is just about to go down. This means that I will be home rather late at night. My wife doesn't like this, and my kids would be wondering why Dad isn't home to beat them if they are not doing their homework. So the kids won't have their homework done.

The other is that it is Hot in QLD. TAS, VIC are not. NSW not too bad. When the air has cooled off for us backward folk that don't have money to burn on air conditioners, it is about 1030 at night. Moving the clocks will make the time 1130 until the air temp has reached a comfortable level to go to sleep. Nothing to do with cows and curtains. I have worked in TAS, VIC and NSW for extended periods in summer and winter and have seen their climates and the way things are done. WA has the same view as QLD... Funny looking at the general latitude of the states

I was also a fan of the gun laws Australia had before 1990, and then they changed them. But thats another topic.

In Qld if your onto it you can get a early and late session. At my old grandmas house in southern Nsw we would have dinner at 8:30 pm and it was still daylight!?. Working in WA when it was trialed there about 7 yrs ago and I didn't like it then either.

For goodness' sake, let's not do this one over again.

Cape Byron is the eastern most point of the Australian mainland.

North and south of there the coastline slopes away to the west. North of Cape Byron the coast line slopes away to the west more than it does south of the cape.

If you want DLS in NSW and VIC, go for your lives. We do NOT need it here in QLD.

Don't you people know anything about lines of longitude and how they relate to GMT???

The difference in the length of daylight a location gets between summer and winter depends on latitude, not longitude. As you go further away from the equator shifting time makes more sense. The biggest argument for daylight savings is without DLS the sun will come up early in the morning at 4.30am or earlier further south. So the idea of splitting a huge state like Queensland laterally between the north that keeps standard time and the south that goes on summer time makes more sense than any other idea.

wow I didn't know there was this many people out there that didn't like the idea, you are all weirdos. I guess the main thing in summer is that I don't have to get up till 6;30 in the mornings, but the sun is up at 5 and gets hot, so you cant sleep anyway.

You claim to work by the sun and would therefore work an hour later with DLS. If you work by the sun and would continue to do so then time & temp is irrelevant as that won't change relative to your work hours. Yes, your kids would be doing stuff an hour differently but not you. Can't have it both ways.

KBD, I never claimed to work by the sun. When I am home I am not working. By this I mean that I work in many other states of AUS and South East Asia. I can't remember the last time I got a days pay for working in QLD. I come home after I have finished windsurfing or T-Bagging, or shooting with mates or what ever is on for me during the day.

So yes I will have it both ways. If you don't like the 9 to 5 don't do it. I don't...
