It's just a Queensland huntsman spider. They're big up here.

I'll call it as a fake. What's going on with his right thigh and forearm in the open claw?

Nah, I don't think that's a fake. It's just a question of camera angle, zoom and depth of field that messes with your sense of persepective and scale.

Forced perspective

he's got the crab on a 2 foot long stick, holding it up towards camera, so that hands & stick hidden by crab.

Come on guys, there are no shadows between his legs and the grass, or his body and the grass for that matter.
Pffffft.

In that case you'd see the shadow of the crab on him, a lot further away than the shadow actually is. Looks like the camera was a small point and shoot or a phone, with the flash slightly to the left of the lens. There's enough separation of the flash and the lens to see a shadow on the right of objects (like his left leg on the grass, or the crab's left claw on his leg).

Interestingly TinEye hasn't seen this image before, so it hasn't really done the rounds yet.

I'm calling this "Plausible".

Where do you live? You are killing girls while they sunbake in the park and now you have giant lobsters!

WA is a wild place

I once caught a measly 45cm snapper on a charter boat. Not impressed enough with it so when the camera was whipped out I held it at arm's length and viola! I had proof of catching a thumping 80cm snapper. I'm suspecting the same foul play in this pic.

Obvious fake.
Pontiac Fiero is not consistent with other vehicles.

PLUS the Victoria's Secret billboard is in Arabic - there's a giveaway.

I think it's perspective and a big muddy. To me it looks like they are on a slope and the muddy has walked up hill towards the camera, giving the illusion of being much larger. Grass blades are different size under the muddy.

Yep +1 but still I would love to turn up at a NT mud crab race with him in a wheelbarrow and let him run riot
