Why don't they still play the sports, just not allow the spectators into the ground. I figure once everything has been set up, the costs of actually having two teams play a game of cricket must be almost nothing, and they'd still get the tv audience and advertising.
Only a guess, but the public paying to enter pays for the jerks who run/control the sports body, fork the players, we in head office are OK.

Not so much with cricket but the contact sports like afl, rugby, even basketball could see one infected player take out both teams by the end of the match.
That would be an expensive worksafe court case to defend!
just read that their not stopping womens' AFL since they've never had more than 500 people to a game
