I find google music hard work, the interface just isn't intuitive.

My wife has a spotify account she pays for. It works well and you can choose download mode, will save everything to the device that you first play it on. I use it sometimes from phone to car stereo. What annoys me though is default is "shuffle play" and if you want an album in order you have to go into now playing, options, shuffle off. PITA.

There's a million hours of music on soundcloud and even youtube. You can download from both very easily for free, even if they don't want you to.

Google Music.

You can't download individual songs. Either create a playlist and download. Or download an album. support.google.com/googleplaymusic/answer/1250232?hl=en-AU&visit_id=637202970112003184-2219967269&rd=1

The worst is Apple music, app is total garbage.

Have used Spotify and Google music in the past both are good. Spotify is probably better of the two for music discovery. I don't think any of the apps really have offline playback dialed.

Yes. This Is the go. As kiteboy Dave says it's not that intuitive an interface. That's the second time I've come across this with Google (hangouts rubbish). But I'm getting the hang of it. (90 days free).
3 week road trip where there are no o radios so madlly downloading family friendly music. The playlist is easy. Just make one purely for down loading. Still go the wrong screen a sometimes but it seems to have everything and good suggestions. Even has radio stations based on bands you like. (Eh pixies radio! Even mudhoney radio just based on some songs I sourced) And u can download their playlists. Do for family I have downloaded mist streamed thus year and it ts got all the latest pop hits and good dance tracks etc.

If I add a song to a playlist after I have download I wonder if it's smart enough to know it needs to download that as well? What does YouTube music do? Is that where you can download the video clip? It seems to be a separate login?

Google music gives you a subscription to YouTube Red (not the other Red YouTube ;) ) this means you can download videos to your device for later watching (much like the music on google music) and you dont get adds (but i've always used adblocker)..most useful function i found is that you can now listen to videos with your phone screen locked out..other than that its so so, the special content on YouTube Red is pretty meh atm.

Log in wise it will be the same google log in that you use for android/gmail/play store.
