Its about 5mm long and the light pinkish colour is almost clear in sun light.
It's making nests in our timber deck and likes surface spray.
Any advice appreciated.

If it like surface spray it must be a resistant. A better photo may get better responses.

Living on your deck makes them a tenant.

If this stuff doesn't kill them, shift house
www.bunnings.com.au/basf-amdro-170g-granular-ant-bait_p2963666

Bit expensive but very effective, covering a 5c piece is more than enough for a nest

Only stuff which kills of the tiny little introduced bastards we get here

Try this, we had various types of ants trying to take over our house, put this down and a couple of weeks later you start finding very drunk looking or dead ants everywhere. Even kills carpenters. The trick is not to kill the alive ones you see walking around, hard not to do when they parade across the floor by the thousand

After spending already hundreds on antkilla products I found that all ants love to eat borax. Cheap from Bunnings, $8 a kilo. Mix with some water, sugar, honey and flour. Looks like not very healthy product for any ants.

boil the kettle, pour over the ants and into their nest if you can find it,
repeat until all dead.

Agree they do look like fire ants but no sign of a nest or mound.
Also we sit on the deck and I have been in close contact without been bitten

You could burn them out.......
but if they are fire ants, they may be fire retardant.

on a previous block down here we had bull ants. Tried all sorts of remedies, finally poured kerosene down the holes, was about 3 litres then lit a match. Fair go trees were catching fire spontaneously 5 days later. but we got rid of the sods.
so funny to see smoke coming out of the sports oval next door.
