I have been working from home for what feels like years now, and I am drinking way too much coffee.

Does anyone have any good ideas about what to drink that is not going to get me hyped up on caffeine, but stil nice to drink?

I tried Green tea, but its not me. I tried cans of Mother, which is me, but I find it hard to concentrate while viewing the world through jittery eyeballs.

Surely there must be something that is nice to drink slowly, no caffeine, and not full of sugar?

There is this weird stuff that leaks out of the tap next to our kitchen sink,
According to some it is perfectly safe for pouring down your neck - but opinions differ greatly among the many experts.
Some say . EWWWW...... Fish pee in that...and point to amber liquid with magical bubbles as being a more suitable for human consumption.
Others say that boffins use chemicals to kill the fish pee, and make the [almost] free stuff from the tap safe for consumption,
Even more noisy experts proclaim that the fish pee killing chemicals do a number on human tissue and rot your innards even worse than fish pee.

magical bottled bubbles sounds a much more civilised option

Or soda stream with lime juice. Tap water varied in quality in Perth, better down south here.

Boil up some honey lemon and ginger. You can then bottle it, dilute it, drink it hot or cold, with still or sparkling water

You know I was going to say it.....Kombucha.

Also, tending your brew gives you a break from the daily grind of being stuck at home. Just about to bottle a Raspberry/Lemon batch.

I also like to make weak lemon barley to sip from a glass that is half filled with ice.

This explains quite a lot....quite a lot.

Try Remedy Kombucha Lemon Lime and Mint. Delicious. But Kombucha is high in acid so you need to balance that out with something alkaline or you'll end up burping all afternoon and getting heartburn.

Or....H2O.

I drink the caffeine free one. It just wakes me up, makes me focussed and alert, with zero jitters or "high" or whatever. Feels like you've had the best night's sleep ever.

I don't drink it all in one go, perhaps just 1/3 at a time. Lasts ages.

I wish it were cheaper.

...but right now I'm heating up the coffee machine. I just like the ritual.

What does working from home have to do with it? What did you do when you went to work?

My habit has always been a good coffee in the morning and a cup of tea in the afternoon. The only difference being at home means is that the coffee is better, and cheaper. If you want anything else there's plenty of water in the tap.

I have added a chunk of homemade banana chocolate chip cake to the afternoon tea. I make it myself with reduced sugar and it's usually after an hour or two of foiling so I reckon its alright.

Twinings - Cold Water Infused tea bags.

Quite a few flavours to choose from. Just drop a bag into your water bottle.

One tiny drop of orange oil in your water bottle. Lasts up to about 3 or 4 fills

Thank you for asking. When I am working from an office, the social interaction is a way to keep the job more interesting. I tended to go outside 2 times a day to buy coffee as well, more for the 'getting out of the office' part than the coffee.

Here, working from home, the social interaction is missing, so I drink more coffee than I would normally drink at work, to try and feel more motivated. Without the interaction, its nowhere near as enjoyable.

Its obviously not a problem for some as plenty of colleagues have no such problem and some are loving the recent change to WFH fulltime.

I don't know if other people get this, but when I was working from home in the past, I tended to work more hours as I felt obliged to be more online, even though I think the overall output was the same.

As for drinking water, nope, can't do it. Same as eating dry rice cakes. Can't do that either.

First up - if I am drinking a cup of.... I stop put feet up approach and enjoy it... so not work and sip routine.
I have ritual of manual coffee machine - so this takes time to make and enjoy.
I mix it up and stop caffeine from coffee by 3pm-ish
The mixers - glass of milk or water (rain water tank), range of teas & Silver tea (Ehhmmm) boil water pour in mug couple of drops of lemon/lime juice - sip hot
Towards evening 2 heaped Tsp Cocoa bit of sugar melt in hot water up to 1/3rd cup - rest full cream milk microwave 1 minute - enjoy..
Known to enjoy a beer after the stumps are up..
Cheers

I love the sip and work routine. Was doing around 4 cups of coffee a day on it up until 2014, then got a week long headache from something else, but switched to plain black tea. Love it, and don't get nearly as much caffeine. Plus that makes the occasion when I do have a coffee again even more "effective". I heard it said once that coffee is caffeine for the body, tea is caffeine for the mind. Maybe like microdosing .
