How to make way through this smartphone jungle/scam thing?

There's four of us in the family.

And we're paying about $140 / month for Telstra's 'big bundle' already. Covers our landline and our internet.

Plus more every month for a couple of prepaid 'old fashioned' phones.

Plus my wife has a smartphone that she's got on an Optus plan I think. Don't know what that costs us, I'd guess about $50/mth.

Now two children have got a smartphone each and I'm told off to go get one, too, join the tribe.

But what's all that going to cost?

A quick look and it seems almost to be unavoidable a monthly payment for each phone.

And the rock bottom cheapest which well may be no good for some reason seems to be $25/mth.

So am I going to have to fork out another $75/mth on top of what we're already paying just for dubious pleasure of these smartphone things?

Anyone happen to have any thoughts on this?

regards,

ab

Smartphones are on the way out.

It's all going to the next evolution in wireless, smoke-signals with vapes. Though I guess it's technically vape-signals.

Lots of under $19 a month deals going around with unlimited talk and text, but only have 1GB of data, pretty cheap really but no good for some people who crank up their social media post up to over 10 000 posts. So good deal if your just phoning, not good for online social media types that live for that sort of thing.

wtf, how has that got anything to do with Markie? lol got to laugh at the heavy weather conspiracy crew, put your tin foil hat back on bro lol
Its the plan I use, just saying if your a social media junkie living on the net cranking out 10 000 posts etc, it wont suit you. You guys are paranoid, but funny lol

Well I must be wrong & I humbly apologise.
So it's only good enough for nearly 5000 posts.
Be great for me then at only 1316

Your apology excepted. Thanks, bro. Yes, if your not a social media junkie, it would be a good plan for you. The cheapest I have found is $16, that pretty damn good, why would you own a land line in this day and age????? But some generations cant seem to let them go, lol

"Belong" have pretty good plans if you supply your own phone. They run off the telstra network, No lock in contract.
The cheapest one is $10 a month with unlimited calls and texts to mobiles and landlines in Australia , also 1 gig of data.
Any unused data will roll over into a data bank. You can change up to bigger data plans if you want.

Check out Boost mobile. 12 month prepaid $150 with 80gb data or $300 with 240gb both with unlimited free calls and text. Uses the Telstra network as well so very good coverage.

There is a big thread on Ozbargain if you want more info.

Is the 12gb for the year or for a month?

Don't think Aldi has access to the full Telstra network either.

Do you have a link to this deal? I've been with Aldi for a while now and never seen this. Can't find it on their website either.

Yes Aldi is full Telstra.

You need to ask at the check out for a $99 SIM card. You keep your exisiting phone number. You can also top up data if you need to. Anyone over 40 would probably only need 1gb a month anyway!!

No Aldi is not "full Telstra", quoted from the Aldi Mobile FAQ Coverage Map section.

"MEDION Australia Pty Ltd. (ABN 58 106 611 330) under the brand name ALDImobile uses part of Telstra's 4G and 3G mobile network."

The other thing you can do if you have a couple of phones using Belong Sims is gift unused data to each other. So if you build up data one person isn't using you can give it to the other user.
