Western Australia's new floral emblem should be changed from the Kangaroo Paw to either the glass bottle, plastic bottle or plastic/paper wrapper. I've been to 9 different cites across the world over the last 6 months and I would have to say Perth is the dirtiest when it comes to road side rubbish especially along our free ways and country roads up north and down south. We certainly did not have this problem 5 to 10 years ago. What has changed in our community that has attributed to this littering epidemic?
Yeh i have to agree, WA is pretty bad for littering. I'd like to know why South Australia (SA) can recycle just about everything and the rest of the country just "chucks it out". Why can't we follow SA's lead or step up the fines. I think i heard Singapore does a pretty good job.
Its the same here in vic .......... i recon its the current generation of teens / early twenty's .......... a large percentage of them are pigs . This of course is learned from their pig parents.
They are breeding rapidly .....beware the pig people are growing in numbers..........they will shiiit in your nest .
This is one of my pet hates, I class litterers as scum, wa is shocking, next time you head north check out the verges , it's a disgrace, some tourist from nsw commented how it tarnished their view on a so called unspoilt part of Australia,

Crap, you been in Rip Van Winkle land across the world of late ![]()
If you think the verges are a disgrace, try having to park up overnight in a roadside "rest bay" or "truck bay" anywhere in the in the N/W- or better still practically anywhere in the state.
Rarely are there dunnies, water, shelter, benches, tables or amenities of any sort.
Walking around them is akin to traversing a minefield - with streamers of used dunny paper, lumps of poo, general rubbish and stuff caught up in the undergrowth.
The aroma at times is appalling.
Taking my shovel walkies
didn't help much - as all too often by morning, feral dogs had dug up what I had buried
.
I always figured this could be fixed by developing a standard design "remote area" rest, picnic and parking sites which could be paid for out of the royalties for regions slush fund,
Use the fund to properly set up bays and sites every 50 or so klicks apart - with each town-site having a local crew with a light truck regularly patrolling the sites
[head north one day - then south the next, rinse and repeat] to top up water tanks, hose out the dunny, and remove rubbish before it builds up.
I emailed the Transport Minister / Transport Department and RAC, but no replies.........
I have noticed though, that many local councils and shires do their utmost to enforce a no camping, or limited time policy at sites - I guess to push travellers and tourists into paying through the nose for town-site based caravan parks and shops.
try camping overnight "roadside" practically anywhere near the coast in south west W.A. - and see what your free camp site costs you.....
stephen
Shouldnt this be in the WA section??
Yeah, I agreed though, from the amount of whinging that comes from you WA crew, the floral emblem should be changed to a Pansy lol![]()

I guess the lack of respect for the environment by littering is because most are cashed up miners that dig big holes in the earth for profit, so why would they care about throwing their rubbish out the car window??

Funny that you should ask that. Just this week I asked my city orifice why there were no bins out front of the high school nor by the bus stops anymore. I was advised to ask via email as this lady in the waste management section didn't know why herself. I threatened a letter to the editor and she was ambivalent.![]()
I don't know if it is a littering epidemic.
I think perhaps it is same amount of litter but nobody is picking it up. Few years back you would often see somebody on community service picking up litter, or at least the trail of full orange bin bags along the road awaiting collection the next day.
But now, court ordered community service is soft as fk - cos you can't put them out in the heat, or near traffic, or bending down, or anything that might actually require some effort.
Poor darlings.
generalizing a bit there l.o.w.
i have worked in the mining industry for about thirty years and would never do something as socially wrong as throw stuff out a car window.
I don't know if it is a littering epidemic.

If people just stopped throwing their rubbish on the ground and expecting councils should clean up after them, and complain if they dont?, there wouldnt be a problem.
Not hard to put ya crap in a bin or take it home to ya own bin??
Shouldnt have to depend community services for being too lazy to clean up after oneself.
Dont see too much litter at our local beach, most here love the natural beauty of the beaches and surrounding environment, but any trash I do see I take home with me and put in my wheelie bin, like most round here do. Great community vibe in smaller beach areas when it comes to the environment, which is awesome.
Seems to be lost in the city dwellers ![]()

If everyone did this, instead of expecting others to pick up after them, there would be no problem.
One day lotofwind you'll put two and two together and realise that that car you are driving to the beach to pick up the rubbish was originally dug out of the ground by those West Australian miners. If you don't want them to dig any more holes then start walking (in bare feet).
Pity this thread wasn't a couple of weeks earlier on Clean up Australia day.
That came and went without a single mention on here.
they took all the bins away from the public transport stations/stops here because of TERRORISM!!! WTF?
Didn't you hear about Bin-Laden ?
Presumably the bin was laden and it went off. So all the other bins were emptied and removed.
I don't know if it is a littering epidemic.

Are you just lost in the excitement of being able to criticise me again??!! (in addition to usual rant about WA, or mining, surprised you could not find a dig at windsurfing in there)
Read what I wrote.
I did not say littering was good. I did not say I expect others to clean up after us or depend upon community service people.
This thread relates to "is there more litter at the edge of the road nowadays / what changed in last 5-10 yrs?" and I responded to that.
All I said was IF there is in fact more litter on the side of the road it MAY not be that more people are littering. It may simp,y be less cleanup occurring.
DUH.
Now seeing as though you think littering is bad, you must agree with me that court ordered community service time should include a bit less volunteering as a checkout operator at Good Sammys and a bit more of picking up garbage next to the highway , Yes?
Pity this thread wasn't a couple of weeks earlier on Clean up Australia day.

Dont go on the attack Markie, not criticising you, I never said that you said "littering was good"?? lol
Making up stories again??
was talking in general how city people depend on council/gov to clean up after them
. You shouldnt HAVE to depend on community services.Im talking about the topic, go for the ball dude. yawn
We did a couple of different local gigs in the creeks and beaches here on CUAD(clean up aus day). But as some mentioned, no one on here organised or ringed in others to join in , why would they, as this "general forum" tends to be more about whinging of problems and complaining why councils/gov/media isnt doing anything, ,, way more than being proactive and actually doing something themselves for their own community.
I think we are all smart enough(well most of us
) to know you cant depend on the gov to sort your local prob's out. lol
Get out there Mark and pick up some rubbish off the highway yourself . ![]()
This is simple, littering is plain , your a scumbag, carnt use lack of bins as an excuse, just take it home, it shows a complete lack of respect for where you live, simple as that , I grew up in a s''t hole in the uk ,but wouldn't dream of dropping rubbish , it was drummed into us by our folks, I remember seeing a dawn service overseas attended by Aussies, and they left litter everywhere , now that's low
^^^ I am not talking about community services eg: the council. I am talking about people doing "community service" ordered as punishment by a Court.
I also never said we have to depend on them.
Read the original question.
He asked if anythign has changed in the last 10 yrs, I suggest it is not an increase in littering but rather a decrease in picking up. How the hell you construe that as a whinge who knows. Go back to trolling, cos you can't intelligently participate in a decent debate.
lol, you love our debating, otherwise you would have listened to your peers on here (10 years ago
)and not keep replying. lol
Imagine if you picked up 13 409 pieces of rubbish off your local ( 1 bit of rubbish for each seabreeze post).lol
Would be no need for this post
All Im saying is its up to US to make a difference, not BLAME others, community service etc. Shouldnt have to rely on them for others bad behaviour? No?

Surely you can agree on that?
The litter shouldnt be thrown there in the first place, so we shouldnt HAVE to blame council/gov or your community service to clean it up for you? yes? Do you get it yet![]()
I heard that the thinking behind removal of bins was that if a bin ws full people would continue to put rubbish in/around said bin, but if you remove the bins people are encouraged to take their rubbish with them![]()

Having just completed my first lap around Australia I have to say I concur. The free camp sites in NSw were few and far between and of very ordinary quality. Queensland and the NT were by far the best and as a result we spent more time there as well as in their caravan parks. NSW made us feel unwelcome. Victoria was almost as bad as far as facilities goes. WA is actually pretty good if you look properly and there are facilities in the Southwest just not as Surfers Point or in the middle of prime tourist areas, but certainly within 45 min drive. South Oz was alright too, though to be fair we didn't spend much time there. We did have a truly beautiful free bush camp with overflowing bins half way between Streaky Bay and Iron Knob.
Today I went to my favorite landsailing spot in western Australia, Lake Lefroy. After packing up after sailing I went to the clubhouse to check it out for damage, bottles etc. The fire box under the bbq held disposable nappies and the usual bottle collection..would like to go and sh!t in their bbq . Thats my rant!!

You surely are retarded.
The original post asks - "there seems to be more rubbish, what has changed?"
It does not ask if litter should be there in the first place.
(Let me quote for you so you don't have to wear out your wanking hand with scrolling up: "We certainly did not have this problem 5 to 10 years ago. What has changed in our community that has attributed to this littering epidemic?" )
I submit there is maybe not more rubbish, just less picking up.
Thats it. End of story.
But you have to extrapolate that into Mark thinks the council should pick it up or Mark thinks littering is OK and we should have litter-picker-uppers.
Where the fk did I say that?
Main problem here is your lack of comprehension of the actual question that started the thread, second is your burning desire to disagree with me.
The latter would be flattering......but the former makes me realise it is not at all flattering to be stalked by one so dopey.
(BTW: I think you meant "havin'" as short for "having" - not "haven" which is a house or place of respite. Keep up with your English lessons so you can have a proper go at me without looking too dumb.
)

End of story...lol
I have enough trouble getting the kids to pick up after themselves let alone train the local bogans.
generalizing a bit there l.o.w.
i have worked in the mining industry for about thirty years and would never do something as socially wrong as throw stuff out a car window.
have to agree there , you wouldnt dream of littering on a minesite, in the kalg goldfields the mines get all the rubbish hauled back to kalg for burial, at great cost as you are not allowed to bury onsite
I don't know if it is a littering epidemic.

you might be right there Mark. locally our big pick up area was the tip road. the prisoner used to clean it once a month for thier "wages", but now it let out to contract, and a local charity with kids on subsidized pay get to do all the work. .
i do think aussies are plain lazy though.
i recall living near the vic/Sa border ans the Sa's would come about 5kms into Vic picking up bottles, but after that you would see the 5km bottle zone around towns. i suspect in Sa they have realized that not tossing bottles has a flow on that people stop throwing other rubbish as well. that kind of data is too hard to quantify so its simply ignored
