So the flys on the West Coast must be some tough buggers to be still hammering away after wind gust of over 200 kph went right through that area in Karratha ![]()
As soon as you drive west of broken hill, the flies are usually smaller and more persistent.
Alice Springs is particularly bad.
There is a fair chance west coast flies are nastier as the desert goes pretty close to the coast in the north west. On the east coast the desert is thousands of kilometres from the coast. Thus east coast flies are less aggressive. In the east coast bush there are pretty nasty march flies. They really sting when they bite you. Not many people go to the bush so march flies are not well known.
