Ahh the hopefully dead and buried former politician... Tony Abbott
I see you may be as adept as your name sake at intuition... but it takes all sorts

Please read perhaps slowly - Please absorb, then should you feel the need to reply -- the floor is yours...

When the armed services of Australia go to a declared war zone they receive extra pay as a community response to recognising the threat they are under, doing the bidding of the current political masters (and the country!!). They on balance are well equipped know their enemy (ies) and as long as they are not reservists have signed on for their career with the expectation some conflict is often in their sights... Some awesome tasks - Think Timor others less so.. but that is not under their control.

The medical community has been called to the front line of the fight against COVID-19 on our shores with a major struggle in place to build up PPE, they to a degree know their enemy, they to a large degree have understanding of their environment. But every shift in a COVID area is the same as going on patrol where Improvised Explosive Devices littering their path.. They can take that danger home to their loved ones too. They will suffer PTSS.

My point they deserve our full support - including financial support...

one example of a sour taste...
I have a friend handling the finances at a club. The bar crew are receiving community support - I approve. However if they are asked to go in to their place of work and help as required - and refuse stating just the money thanks...

Now, I weigh the two situations. We are busting the piggy bank (the nations financial capacity - re the budget) I know where I would sooner the money went....

If it walks like a duck ....

Cheers

Medics that serve in wars zones deal with gun shot wounds, lots of blood, limbs blown off, collecting bodies parts is rubbish bags etc etc

Our nurses and doctors on the frontlines of covid19 are dealing with sore throats, dry coughs, etc etc.

They are both awesome but not equal

So at the moment in WA we have about 40 people in Hospital with Covid-19 (please correct me if i'm wrong). This is state wide. I'ts great that we are praising our front line doctors and nurses but I'm sure Covid-19 isn't really making a massive impact on our hospitals. Nothing like Italy and USA.
