Interesting!! So here, yachties are accused of polluting the oceans if they do not have a toilet holding tank for pumping out into the sewerage system at the marina.

Where is the relativity??

Combine a complete lack of flush toilets, a cultural heritage that says only 'untouchables' (lowest caste) should be anywhere near poo, and their generally twisted logic (to our eyes) and somehow you end up with them pooing in the weirdest places - train tracks and highways are also a favourite.

I remember the old NSW regional trains had a toilet that simply had an opening at the bottom through which the tracks were clearly visible. They used to ask you not to use the toilet at a station.

When I was studying fishery management in Hampshire, UK, we visited the Southhampton Sewage Works on the River Test estuary.

They had a piece of plant there which separated solids which were conveyed to a bystanding barge. It had a capacity of 4000 tones and when it was full, roughly every three days from memory, it was towed out to a dedicated area in the English Channel where they opened up the bottom and dumped it. That was back in 1982 so things may well have changed.

Out of sight out of mind.

Oh and the French were doing the same thing!

I recall that on a local train in South Africa. It used to travel really slowly and as kids it was a challenge to use the crapper then run to the back carriage to see if you could spot your handiwork.

Compared to the plastic we let loose in the ocean, and the extra CO2 the ocean now has to cope with? Just a local tidy beach issue, not a problem for the ocean.

I can't wait for the Olympics to start in Rio, the U.S rowing teams had to quit training there because of all the raw sewage in the Rio venue, they all basically got sick.
It's going to be GREAT!!!
But they said they will have it all cleaned up. There is no way, their sewage system dumps straight into the bay, and it's still going on.

One of my fav waves got its name from a good old dump

"I asked him about Periscope's and how he had come up with the name? He said upon discovering and surfing the perfect righthander for the first time one of the boys layed a **** in the lineup which proceeded to float vertically upright in the channel next to the wave. Paul said that it looked like a submarine periscope. And that's how Periscope's got it's name!"

I remember San Remo near Mandurah years ago a fishing spot called "the dump" because that was where the treated sewage used to get pumped to .Caught plenty of fish there ,herring, tailor, skippy etc

Always just called it 'dune restoration' but guess its just an advantage of a low population here. Anyone ever been in the 'poo cave' at rabbits car park? Once rolled up there at dawn to see a tent set up under the trees, the poor travellers must have got there after dark and found themselves a nice camping spot..Woulda been a shock climbing out of that tent in the morning!
