Now I'll have to say that I'm a science fiction, murder mystery action type of TV viewer but we started watching this show The Detectorists
on Netflix. Really quaint old world type of show but couldn't stop watching. Binge watched two seasons in three nights. Have a look, it's really worth watching. ![]()

Try Mystery Road on ABC iView. Six episodes you can binge watch.
Arron Pederson is a great actor and a great guy. I spoke with him on the phone for 10 mins or so when he was at the Middleton Pub after a day's shooting of Goldstone. My son was a set builder in the production of that movie, called me up and I asked him who was there. He said Arron was there and I said really??? He said yes and did I want to talk with him. I said yes and he came to the phone straight away and we had a good old chat.
I reckon he did not have to act the opening scene of that flick. He had to have had a real hangover to have played it so well.
Australian movie and television production is so underrated yet is some of the best in the world.
I started watching this last night. Its a good program. In my experience, some of the best content on Netflix is the non-Netflix stuff. I guess this will change over time, but I think a lot of the Netflix originated stuff is boring. I am sure its like any movie studio where you get a lot of b-grade stuff, and then a surprise hit.
I have sworn myself off binge watching. Its good watching it all in a row, but somehow it loses something. I loved watching Breaking Bad when it came out, but now I feel you wouldn't really appreciate it if you watched it from scratch all in a row.
If commercial TV is so great, why is it that a lot of BBC produced content is good?

I would say the benchmark for BBC tv is set fairly high as is evident in nearly all their shows. Our benchmark is set by US tv which is dictated by commercial interests appealing to the lowest common denominator. Same goes for Australian tv with trashy shows like Home and Away or Neighbours setting the tone. Good shows are pushed back to later viewing so they can bombard us with dreadful reality tv. Thanks to Netflix , the Abc and Sbs especially with freeview ,there is lots of good tv around.

I started watching a few nights ago, and didn't get past 15 minutes. I'll give it another go.....
This is showing on ABC at 9:15pm on Fridays. I guess it shows that anything good usually ends up on free to air tv.
I watched a few minutes on ABC and gave up. Does the fat girl love interest go anywhere?
Currently watching Secret City on Netflix. It seems that it went out on Foxtel originally. Local production, quite topical, set in Canberra politics/media/spy agencies with a possibly corrupt minister, Chinese cyberattacks and coverups going on.
And another season of Orange Is the New Black comes on Netflix at the end of July. More tits and lesbian acts in prison
Go Piper!

Nah, not from what I can tell.
I started watching Secret City, and it was 'sort of interesting', but not interesting enough to keep me awake. Perhaps it will be more interesting when I am more awake.
I started watching a few other programs, and some are good and some are not so good.
But, I think a lot of programs are subject to the viewers own interests or what they find entertaining. Sometimes I can't find some of these programs interesting at all, and sometimes I am surprised. I watched a few seasons of orange is the new black but I lost interest. Was it me or the series?
I am laid up while recovering from shoulder surgery at the moment, so Netflix is getting a workout. I googled the best series, but some just don't appeal.
I have started watching 'Dark', which is semi interesting. I have also started watching Mindhunter, which I found more interesting. I have added a lot of potentially interesting programs to my list, but so far most of them bore me to tears after a few minutes. Which is curious, as I found Detectorists interesting but others obviously won't.
Unsurprisingly I have found that there is more content on free to air tv that I find interesting to watch, and more on ABC and SBS than the others. I just need to make sure I record it all so I can watch it when I want.
