Hi All,

I see Telephone socket in my unit but when I checked with my Rental agent, she is saying that there is no cabling inside the property. As I can take an unlimited plan only in broad band connection, can you please advise whose responsibility to lay telephone cabling inside the unit

As Telephone Cabling is the basic facility present in any unit but it is missing in my unit. Can you please tell me is there any Tenancy rules and laws in Victoria that Owner should provide Telephone cable inside the unit as it is basic facility need to be done by the owner for the tenants.

I'm getting mad without an internet connection, can you please reply to my post ASAP.

Regards,
Shoba

Just quietly, you might do better on Whirlpool than here.

Obvious answer is request a telstra connection as a matter of urgency from landlord via rental agent.

Other things to try to learn a bit more:
Borrow a phone, plug in, see if dial tone or other connection?
Remove wall plate, see if plug wired from the back?
Have a good sniff around basement, access pits outside, etc.
Ask Neighbors what internet they get
check NBN & cable access maps for your area

don't touch it , get in contact with your real estate agent and get them to sort it out .

I live in Burnley street, Richmond in Victoria. I asked one of the neighbor, she said Broadband - Optus. But she is not sure where the MDF is placed inside the building. Unable to contact other neighbours for MDF placed in the buidlign. I also saw some wire pluged in from internet ports present in the unit.

I also posted in whirlpool, but no response as I get 2 response atleast here. Telstra will not provide unlimited plan hence hesitate go with them.

Rental agent is not replying for my mails. Do you know any rules and laws of the Landlord to provide this facility to the tenants as it is basic facility tht they should provide.

In WA at least, it is not a requirement of the Landlord to supply a landline. You are allowed to put one in yourself at your expense and remove it when you vacate. I am not sure how much this would differ in Vic.
