Rum, ice, a couple key limes. Sipped really slow it's rather nice.
Even three beers has me up all night pissing.
I drink two beers and I'm up twice, three beers and I'm up three times SMH, 2AM, 4AM, 6AM
So now 2 beers if I can drink them before 6PM the one rum drink. Had two rum drinks last two nights but felt it too bad in the morning.
I suppose it's a blessing of some sorts that I can't really drink anymore at age 52, but it's just so damn sad all the same.
Mate says I should get my prostate bored out, not sure about all that.

I'm curious how much everyone else is able to drink on a regular basis or is able to admit?

For every 250mil you drink of beer you urinate 375ml .
Beer is a diuretic you urinate more than you drink . Tea is another .
There are many .

There was a program on SBS recently with those two twin doctors who show up in a lot of UK medical programs, and one of the things they compared was whether alcohol was a diuretic. One of them drank the alcohol, and the other drank water of exactly the same volume. They collected the urine produced, and it was exactly the same between the two doctors, i.e. alcohol made it no better or worse for urine output than water.

Myth busted, by the sounds of that one.

I can understand why people would think it is though, but its far more pleasant and easier to drink 1 litre of beer than 1 litre of water, and I guess you only notice it when you are drinking beer.

Yes I have certainly noticed this, Steinlager is the worst for some reason. The darker the beer the less pissing it seems. Sawbones tells me alcohol pinches off something at the outlet of the bladder which makes it hard to eliminate completely so it may seem one is pissing more but it's just the same volume spread out over more trips.
He has put in a referral to a Urologist.

Just measured my rum in the drink, it's 4 ounces which is roughly 120 ml in metric madness. That's two drinks which in addition to the two earlier beers makes four drinks which is one too many. Guidelines call for two a day but because I'm nearly 100KG I feel I'm entitled to one more
It's a science experiment is all, discovered the rum doesn't make me piss, the 2+2 only has me up twice, same as only two beers.
What now? well tomorrow I will cut the rum in half, that will be three drinks total.
I just love beer, who doesn't? I've played around with non alcoholic beer but oddly it seems to make me piss just the same and it has a bit of an odd taste, not too bad but not like the real thing.
Am I the only one who cares to admit how much they drink?

If you really want to do a true comparison, drink your rum with enough water chasers to give you the same volume of beer you would have otherwise drunk. See if it gets you up at night.

I know this is a bit strange, but when I drink a bit, I prefer to drink another 250ml or more of water when I get up to take a leak, and it feels better. I think I have it sorted where I don't even remember that I woke up to take a leak.

I will pass on the light beer. In my case, it makes me piss more than I would have expected with full strength beer. Probably in reality I am just drinking twice as much

I am also near 100kgs, and started from 250ml of homebrew beer per night (5%?) and ramped up to two of 750ml bottles to get the same buzz. When I realised how much that is, I started to slow down

I think that's an important thing to note. If you keep drinking regularly, the effect wears off, so you drink more to get the same feel. Its probably better to slow down a lot, every now and then, to preserve that effect instead of just drinking more.

Day 5, one strange side effect, it seems to have me sitting in the dark listening to old jazz whilst I slowly sip the rum, not something I ordinarily did before

Not sure if you are that worried about accuracy in your calculations but might matter if you are planning on driving based on your info....

Your 2+2 drinks is a little conservative. It's probably closer to 4+3 standard drinks.

30ml of spirits at 40% alcohol is 1 standard drink so 120ml is closer to 4 standard drinks. For beer, 250ml of beer at 4.8% is 1 standard drink. A stubby of beer is often around 1.4 - 1.6 standard drinks so your 2 beers and 120ml rum is probably closer to 7 standard drinks well over the 2 (or your adjusted 3) drinks per day and driving limits.

Not sure if this matters for your experiment but thought it might be useful info considering it's being discussed.

As for sleeping, peeing and dehydration, I found straight spirits in moderation to be better for you than beer or wine. Beers and wine has so much other stuff in it, sugars, preservative and many things you don't want to know about which mess with you. The problem with spirits is it's often mixed with soft drinks and it's the soft drinks that mess with you, not the spirits!!

Geez, I made a mistake in the math, it is 4 rum drinks I was drinking, currently two. Our standard beers are 12 liquid ounces, equivalent to 354 ML, so our two beers are equivalent to three of yours. SMH, I suppose I need to dry out a bit. This is the injustice of getting older, all your vices get chipped away at one by one.

^^^ actually, I didn't realize you were in the USA. You might have different standard drink sizes and therefore recommendations are different and everything might get mixed up in translation.

I'm on to white zinfandel wine, you know that pink wine in a box. Something quite remarkable about it, no hangover! It can be put in a tall glass with ice cubes, maybe add some cut up limes and it can be mixed with fruit juice. It gives less hangover than any other liquor I have drank.

Pink wine and juice?

If I ever end up at the same bar as you, I'll make sure I have my back firmly up against the wall while a plan a hasty retreat

It's for drinking at home, don't really go to bars much but if I do I'll be drinking beer for sure so no worries.
But seriously this stuff is amazing, no hangovers and not up all night pissing.

I find G & T is the best substitute for a beer due to the bitter taste. In fact it is the only beverage I can drink when in tropics apart from bintang. I can sip slowly a fair amount of G and T especially with a nice cigar then sleep well and go surfing in the morning without a headache.
You are in tropics Beaglebuddy, aren't you ? What your thoughts on G&T ? I am the same age.
