Loving the cricket back

Trying to get my daughters into it, explaining how it all works

Why though, do the Aussies have to spit every 2 seconds?

I work in the sun, do I spit through my teeth? No I don't. Why do they?

I'd also try and think of things to do, spitting, picking my nose, watching grass grow, stuff like that....

Cricket would have to be one of the most boring games to watch. Thank god Billy Birmingham came along. But I must confess, I did once sit on the Hill at the Gabba and joined with the others shouting "root, root, root" as a good looking sort walked past and throwing the empty cans further down the hill.

Surely they will need to have something for the TV viewers to look at in between those long pauses ?

I think that's why baseball has entertainment in between. Maybe cricket needs the same?

This is my introduction to cricket as a kid.

They sent me out onto a field in the summer sun to catch and retrieve a ball that never came my way. I then had a chance at batting and got out first ball. I never went back.

I don't remember spitting, but I probably did just to relieve the boredom.

Yes, funny things happened playing cricket. In the burning hot sun, waiting and hoping for the ball to finally come my way, just for a bit of action. The ball never did come. Then, just when I was dropping my guard, after a full hour of inaction, a ball came and it was a perfect chance for a catch. Finally an opportunity to be a hero for a change, I thought...As I looked up, there was the sun, and the ball was nowhere to be seen. Then it hit me, full on my lips ! Buggar

Maybe cricket is evolving to reflect the average attention span, 5 days, 1 day, half a day...
