So come on then. How do you Aussies spend your Christmas Day?
As a Pom in Blighty, I'll have the fire lit, a beer open by 1030am (helps to get a bit p!ssed before the mother in law turns up) and a sit down turkey dinner with all the trimmings.
Go around the olds place, open some prezzies, drink, eat, get nagged and bomby all the water out of the pool. Get nagged again.
Gym first thing then my wife and i will head to the beach for an hr or so. Maybe take the SUP down.
My old's for a quiet and smallish roast lunch followed by a bigger dinner at the inlaws.. Both are near Pinnaroo and Santa will bring us wind so will go for a kite to kill some time in between ![]()
In the aircon. Seafood usually high on the list. In the pool for a swim to cool off. It's always hot.
beers. backyard cricket. But boxing day is always in the aircon with more beers eating leftovers switching between the sydney to hobart and the boxing day test.
Long lunch with the family everyone has a good time............ whilst I watch the wind and whitecaps out the window and wonder " do you think anyone would mind if I ducked out ... Just for an hour or so ?
Watch 3 kids open & enjoy their pressies, then travel an hour inland to have lunch with my family, then dinner with her family...and as HP mentioned - watch the wind and wonder why it's always windy on Xmas day!
Get home midnightish feeling sick from all the food, but happy from catching up with families.
1. Awake 0500 why?
2.kids screaming Santa has been.
3. Attempt to consume coffee
4. Fail, children's laughter cuts through me like a knife
5.distribute some presents in the joy for 5-10minutes to drink my now cold coffee.
6. Become a fully functioning human with coffee, sun now beginning to show, time 630
7. Food more presents joy and happiness take the kids for a swim. Prawns beer Crays outlaws in laws etc etc home by 1800
8. House trashed ,kids tired, feeling overfull
We do presents Christmas Eve.
Christmas Day stay at home so as to stay alive. Don't go near any highways.
The day is spent slowly hydrating and grazing. Thirsty?? Fridge is there. Hungry?? Fridge is there.
Food consists of ham off the bone, prawns, avocados, salads, cheeses and other accoutrements.
Only cooking may a steak or green prawns cooked on the BBQ.
Boxing Day is usually a repeat with the tele going on to watch the start of the Sydney to Hobart.
My 15 yr old will ,unusually, wake up ( 6 ish) ,I will drink coffee and hand out pressy's.
Walk next door , poached eggs with smoked salmon , and I know there will be alcohol
, stay away from that keep the coffee coming.
Back home for a swim , seafood - prawns, scollops, fresh fish for lunch.
Looks like the wind is going to drop, so out for a dive and fish![]()
Back home after a few hours, wash boat .
Sit out front with sterio on , wait for friends to arrive and drink and , well depends how long they stay and how much I drink ,

I get edgy the closer it gets. With a large extended family, there is a chance of somebody standing on somebody else toes![]()
But mostly its catching up with family members for a good yarn, huge laughs, Grand-kids running amok![]()

) But my kids now know me well
so they let em run loose knowing I keep an eye on what they are up too.
Boxing day, its a quieter affair, mostly with siblings and more belly laughs about the seasons gone by and the shenanigans we got up to as kids round this time of the year.
Wake up day after boxing day and think each year, "Yep won lotto with my healthy bunch,..... again, and we are all still yarning to each other![]()

Hopefully next year that will be me.. As for this year, it will be the same as last, and the many before that.
Work in the morning. Finish about lunch time. I will swap the kids with the missus in the car park as she is starting work about lunch time. Not yet sure what I will do with the tin lids in the arvo...
Masturbating

I buy meself a bucket of chicken .Eat the chicken and then go to the cricket with the grease lined bucket on me head and drink lots of beer with me mate who's got a carved out watermelon on his head
Not being in Sydney this year again but in the northern US, already spent the day yesterday playing hockey.
Only to be at the receiving end of a vicious charge in the back, the bastard tried to bend me the way me don't bend.
Now bed-ridden for couple of days. I got what I deserved I guess. :-(
Me & missus would rather be doing the picnic thing at Balmoral though...
I'm working Xmas Eve, 9:00pm to (if I'm lucky) 7:00am Xmas morning. Sleep until lunch, probably pop next door for a feed after that, head down the beach for a kite (25 knots forecast), then back to the neighbours for more food, beers then bed.
I went down to Perth a few weeks ago and did the rounds with the family then, so my biggest stress on the day will be choosing between the 7m, 8m or 9m Edge. ![]()
