Just thinking (not always a good idea but here goes)

While tagging these magnificant creaturers is acceptable why not add a chip that gives the sharks a gentle jolt shoud they get too close to shore?

Works for me
like the set up electronic fence for cattle/dogs and or what ever, but what would one do re with the power source then? for the jolt that is?

well........
sharks have to keep moving or they suffocate or something like that, so.......

cable tie a small generator turbine thingo onto the sharks fin.

shark moves through the water, water spins the generator blades which charge the battery/capacitor.

Macro' can figure out the rest of the fine electrickery details better than I can

[if it works can I claim a percentage of the profits?]

6metre plus size fish.. thats a whole lot of body mass, I reckon it would take a bit of a decent shock to deter them from looking for food in an area.

How about we leave the sharks alone and if each individual feels they need to be protected they work out how to protect them selves.
like painting zebra strips on boards or wearing a shankbanz or inserting one in a board or making sure you are the faster swimmer or the one who snakes more rides in the line up over your mates etc etc etc..

A gentle jolt? Sounds like a form of animal cruelty.

Sharks are so misunderstood. They just want to be happy. We should give them more of what they want.

That a dam good idea Stephen, with this generator,
Even better could be solar panels, attached on the back of the shark.
This way sharks need to stay on the surface and could be easy spotted just in case that deterrent system doesn't works.

Yes they should be rewarded with babies to eat if they stay offshore. If they get too close no more babies.

You need to find a way for someone to make money off it for it to happen. So why not inplant a device that detects when a Shark Shield or similar is close by, then it zaps the shark. And battery life, I'm sure if Tazer and a pacemaker manufacturer collaborated they could come up with a suitable device to implant.

Well that's a bit extreme NotWal. I was thinking of feeding the sharks the irritating humans not just the small ones. Possibly start with the humans that insist on cleaning their windscreen at the petrol pump when there is a cue behind them.

Just food for thought...

Clean windscreens matter when driving into the sun. Just sayin...

Windscreen washers clean the windscreen when needed. But some are too slack to fill up their washer bottles, and the rest of us are waiting for them to manually clean their dirty windscreens. That's what it is.

I'm over it.

Feed them to the Sharks.

great idea,
if you are generating power from the shark swimming a gopro could be strapped on also and fed back to a web page. purely for scientific reasons

I thought sharks feed in shallow waters as it is easier to round up schools of bait fish and dead , washed up whales.

Shark bay (WA) is a classic example of this type of feeding habitat.
