Hi all,
My son is studying sound engineering and is gathering a collection of microphones, digital recorders etc. I'd like to buy him a hard case to protect his gear as he takes it from gig to gig.
I was thinking of a 'Pelican' case, however thought I would put the question to the brains trust here for any suggestions.
A water/splash proof case is an advantage, although not essential.

Pelican is the gold standard
But they are pricey, and really it is ridiculous for a moulded plastic product
Look at the Chinese copy "Tsunami" case that looks the same, in their rifle cases it is reputed to be almost indistinguishable

Tsunami? Sounds like a disastrous choice...
Bunnings sell pelican case knock-offs.
I have several and can't fault them. Would be perfect for microphones etc.

15 years ago i bought a SeaLife hard case through PDA for my old school Canon SLR camera and i still use it today. Well not the camera, that was sold to a Leederville hipster some time ago but my current DSLR and a P&S still fit in nicely.
Not sure if they are still even around and i'd be surprised if PDA still stock them but in that time its been beaten up on countless 4wd and offshore fishing trips and a bit of OS and domestic travel and it hasn't missed a beat. At the time it was much cheaper than a pelican case

Skid, I have been a TV sound engineer for 30+ years, and doing location sound for the past 15 years.
Pelican cases are great but heavy and expensive, depending what your son is doing there are many options including Hard side travel luggage, fishing tackle bags etc.
Also think wheels.... lugging gear around is hard work and expensive (if you are paying freight costs).
