seriously I cannot understand all this hoo haa about him being away.
Ive heard a few CFS guys getting quite ****ty when the knobs arrive at a disaster,
'just F off and let us get on with our job'....
'we are wasting time with you ass holes farting around'

are not uncommon,
if my house was in line of a fire, Id want the team doing their job not some dickhead pollie wanting media attention.

It makes no difference. Lower level pollies step up to take the photo op instead of him.
The strange thing was that he didn't announce a week off and make the usual statement that the deputy PM would fill in.
Was it a state secret? "On Holidays matters will not be commented on"?

Neither does getting on the screen like Albo. at every opportunity spewing what those who scream loudest want to hear for political gain .
Bushfires are State responsibilities ,where is the Qld. Premier , Oh, on holidays while Qld burns .
But don't worry the NZ Pm is coming over to give everybody a hug.

He did give Christine Nixon a big serve on Q and A about her leaving to have dinner during our black Saturday fires. Time for a big boy apology I think.

He's an ad man. He'll do and say whatever he thinks suits the issue of the day. No principles at all other than protecting the status quo.

At least Nixon had to eat after a long day. I thought it was disgraceful the way she was treated.

ScoMo on the other hand knew sheet was hitting the fan but went anyway.

Nixon was a divisional head directly responsible for the operation in conjunction with the fire chief. Big difference.

You know ScoMo's in trouble over this...or he wouldn't have cut his holiday short.

The truth is, we didn't really know how many had died until much later that weekend and later. The fires were so ferocious and hot they were essentially impossible to fight.

One policewoman eating dinner had no effect. Is there any evidence that Nixon eating led to the fire chiefs making errors?

I agree it was ,in hindsight ,bad judgement by ScoMo however Nixon was actually at the control centre calling the shots and went off for hair appt. and dinner with her biography writer . Bit different .
Extract Sydney Morning Herald
'She has admitted she spent three crucial hours, as the fires raged, at a pub over dinner with friends and had no contact with emergency services during that time. She kept her dinner reservation despite being told minutes earlier that the fires would likely be devastating and kill people.'

PMs getting involved with the Bush Fires doesn't actually aid the fireman. Getting Shannon Noll would do more for morale. But it's a great photo op.

But Albo has dived at this opportunity and it's paid off for him.

Nixon had one job, a head of the fire authority. Scomo isn't responsible for the fires.

C Nixon was not and never was the head of the emergency services. She was the chief commissioner of police. Craig Lapsley was the head of Emergency Management Victoria as it now known. Never seen Police fight fires.

Sheet no! Really!? Police uphold the law right? Not fight fires?

You fight fires professionally right Kato? So, you'd know...a bit more than bananabrains.

I reckon if it was ScoMo in that position people wouldn't have blinked. But because Nixon is female and overweight, out come the misogynist fat shamers inventing shiite to get worked up about.

Well that's a stupid statement isn't it.
You know as well as I do the Police work in conjunction with the Fire Service in these cases. Mind you with the simmering CFA dispute back then the COP probably was calling the shots or you saying the fire chief controls the police directly.
Must be firies dressed up as coppers I saw controlling traffic in area and assisting victims.

After leaving Victoria Police, she was appointed as chair of the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority in February 2009 until she stood down from the position in July 2010.

Probably directing National parks and wildlife?

@Kato. Nixon was definitely the head of the Fire Authority.

Social media has beaten the Nixon thing up misleadingly as that she was fired from being a police commissioner.

If Scomo was head of the NSW fire service it would be comparable.

Who gives a toss if ScoMo was on holidays with his family. It's a cheap shot by the opposition and the the climate mob. Everyone is entitled to go on holidays with their family. A holiday that was probably booked and arranged many, many months ago.

Well people are blaming ScoMo for the actual bushfires so putting the boot in for him taking a holiday is not much of a leap.

So what?

That was over a year after the Black Saturday fires and the Authority was for recovery, not fighting fires.

Are you contending that she could travel back in time and do something directly about firefighting?

Kato is spot on.

Well I care. It's called leadership. It's strength of character, it's backbone, it's being inspirational, it's a million things. It's NOT being on holidays whilst people in the country that you are the PM of (although he behaves like it was a presidential roll) are giving their lives to try to fight fires. Being absent is in fact pretty poor. The holiday was not booked weeks ago it was a rushed affair kept secret so he could be back to get to India and sell more coal in January.
