A 'cycle' or just profiteering?

Right now in Southern Sydney, E10 is at $1.32 a litre at some places, and then $1.71.9 at other places.

Crazy! almost 40 cents a litre more at some, and during the week it has hovered around the $1.30 to $1.39 mark.

Gee, I wonder why

Hey supernova, are you aware of the drone attacks on the Saudi oil refiners. Pretty good excuse for price gouging. Or don't you follow the news.

Remind me again when that happened? Since then, the petrol around here went down from $1.49, down to $1.32, and start of school holidays it goes up to $1.72.

Really? You believe that its the drone attacks? Oh, I get it, you are saying its an excuse for the price gouging... I am not sure though, I think there's never any reason to justify it, the price just goes up when they think they can gouge, and back down when demand is less.

I want the same system that they have in WA where it has to be nominated the day before, and people can then choose which petrol station to go to. Here in NSW, they give you the real time prices, but it still ends up in cycles that make no sense.

Oh well, what do I care, all cars are fuelled up and I don't need to go anywhere.

Now you are going to get me started on kids being bored. Why have things changed so much, or are they still really the same? When I was a kid we spent most of our time riding our pushbikes around, just doing stuff.

I don't remember being bored, except when very young and we were kept inside while it was raining.

School holidays when I was a kid were just one long run of days filled with stuff, and they always seemed too short. I hope kids these days don't need to be entertained non-stop.

Formula, I think petrol sniffing, glue sniffing or sniffing the next door neighbours...... no let's not go there, has always been around. Just like there are kids today that still 'just ride their pushbikes around just doing stuff'...

I call BS on the 'cycle' they've been selling us for years.

Our local servo here used to cycle about 4c over the week, so I filled up on Mondays....... and about a year ago the cycles just stopped.

They have been on $143.5 for 9mths ish and now on $141.5 for about 3mths. No up n down over the week.

How can they manage....?

Here, I think we went through the same thing. Its almost like the owners of the petrol stations watched A Current Affair at the same time and stopped fitting into the cycle that they had had.

I think the NSW Fuel Check website or app have helped this. It has given us a bit more visibility of prices in the area, so they seem to be a bit more stable. Its interesting to watch the prices on the highway stay high, whilst the ones a bit further away from the main roads drop their prices quicker.

Then there are the stations that are placed near the edge of the freeway where there is a gap of 30kms between petrol stations. Their prices always seem to be the highest and seldom fall, but I guess that's supply and demand economics.

We must be 'special' down here. While most of Sydney is around $1.32 today, we are still around $1.72. I guess when you think about it, it might be more competitive in other places within Sydney.

Crude oil has dropped since the drone attacks so its not that, plus the US is now the biggest oil producer, not the Saudis.

So it does look like price gouging.

In NZ we have so much tax on fuel its over $2.30 a litre.
Our commerce commission is investigating the fuel industry and always the first to put pricing up on a headline and take a long time to drop after oil prices fall.
