Sand only flys when it's windy,.. which means it's a good day for a windsurf.
You can't have it both ways. Sand flys and sailing,. or no sand flys and no saiing.

Or did you mean sand FLIES?
Because they are around when it's not windy and they are rotten little things.

Actually, the worst ones are up around the beaches at Lakeside in Cape Range National Park.
There's some great reefs to snorkel around near there and when you come out of the water, the little sods land on you and bite you like crazy.
A week or two later, wherever you were bitten, you come out in red pimples like chicken pox, and it's really itchy.

For some reason they don't bite until after you get wet.

I can be around 20 other people... no one gets bitten except me....

In my younger days I got hammered by them.. We counted over 300 bites between my ankles and shorts and on my arms....I didnt even feel them bite me,mind you I was a bit of a drinker back then.

pfft you ain't seen nothing if you think lakeside can be bad.
You probably noticed them when you got out of the water because the oil on your skin had washed off. Sandflies piss on your skin so the oil acts as a barrier. You know when there bad when you can't even breath without them being caught in your nose, the best bet then is to cover yourself in baby oil and keep your mouth closed.
As for the original post I am sick of the little blighters too we have had stuff all wind lots of rain and weed all over the beach so they are pretty thick around here too.

you gotta cut some slack; poor Queenslander missed a year of schooling due to the genius system, except no-one worked out what to sacrifice so everything misses out.

The Urban Dictionary provides the following definition for a Spelling Nazi:

"a person who freaks out when a little spelling mistake has occured or has be a constant little asshole about it."

Okay, spell Hyppo... Hipooptam.... argh **** it !
