I have the logistics of getting a Swanson Dart 22 day sailor from Yamba NSW to Mooloolaba Qld .Thinking of pinching a flat bed truck from work and bringing it up The tray is 7 metres long X 2.5 metres wide. The boat should lay flat on her side supported by a few truck and car tyres under her and supporting the bow due to its camber. An Etchells trailer was also a thought but was told it will not do. So of course is doing a 5 to 7 day trip up the coast. Sailing in the day and finding shelter in the evening. Yamba to Ballina, Brunswick,
Tweed heads,Southport, Morton Bay and up to Mooloolaba. Any thoughts? I'm using an average speed of 3.5 Knots as a guide.
Cheers.
Neither the Ballina nor Brunswick bars are reliable enough to be counted on as end of day havens. It's very possible your first leg is going to be all the way to Southport and it means you're going to be needing to judge what that bar will be like 30 hours or more ahead of time.
I hope you are allowing for the East Coast Current. In a 35 footer, we do Yamba to Southport in 16 hours but the reverse trip in 12, in both cases picking days with following winds where we can maintain hull speed or better - using wind or motor - all the way. So it makes a big difference - all the more so with a reduced hull/ average speed.
Just re read your original post
Nor is Tweed Heads a reliable bar.
