If I was sailing on the ocean, I would want the sail on a mast.
The potential disadvantages of using a kite for power far outweigh any advantages.
Getting the rig up or down in 30+knots of wind with 6m seas might be interesting......
I think Sean Langman was mucking around with kites 10 years ago,
His 60 footer AAPT did a S2H and carried a kite, not sure if they flew it in the race though?
