Saw these things today, they are MASSIVE! about 10 foot high, i think because they have solar panels attached to them.

Cost $33 million.

They are about 300 metres from each other so I assume it has a range of about 150 metres.

Do they have cameras on them so we can watch those sharky things swim by?

What will be another interesting future of that shark spotting buoy...shark deterrent system
-this should be main subject of research : what could scare sharks away ?
It cold be electric impulse, sound ( infra or ultra ) , chemical agent
automatic submersible drones released to chase and scare sharks

Only it has claspers (penis's) at the back making it something akin to a billy boy. Whoever drew that doesn't know their shark biology ??

True, but that's the only thing you found unusual with the pic?

Trouble is it could scare them towards the beach.

No, I think that future deter ant will be electronic. There must be something that will repeal this fish but not effect humans. For example submarines pinging device may harm even whales. Something like constant noise must scare this big fish. Vibration ? You just wish to have access to big pool or pond with few experimental sharks. Then we could test what and how could scare them away.If you ever had a fish tank you could see how easy is to scare fish. They have specific receptors, not other animal have. Usually to detect prey, but also to detect danger. Shark must be afraid of Killer Whales orces -so loud recorded orcas conversation could be good to start with.

Macro you miss the point that if these buoys repelled sharks, and they are arranged in a line offshore, they may scare the shark toward shore.
Shark swimming along, comes to a nasty electric signal and turns left or right. We don't know which way he will turn, and one way is toward shore.

Yes, maybe a signal ON the shoreline may scare them away but not a signal on an offshore buoy. So no, playing orca conversations on these buoys will not work. Else, if it did work I am sure for $33mil investment they would play orca conversations.

Then of course they may eventually learn to ignore the signal anyway.

Signal may be close to shores/ beach , so the closer shark approach the stronger and more repealing becomes. Sound could travel in the water long distance, with electric signal it may not be the same.

Yep, as well as there being quite a bit more wrong with the "shark biology" with the shark/babe that Gradient was referring to.
