This is a truly shocking and tragic incident. I am quite stunned that this could happen, 5 people drowned in one go. Reports are saying the victims were experienced water people, including surf instructors and trained lifeguards. Some saying heavy sea foam was a factor, obviously in addition to the strong currents and waves created by the storm.

This is very sad

Condolences to the loved ones and the Dutch surfing/watersports community

I saw that story. Bizarre....must be that the surf foam is particularly heavy and unexpectedly difficult to deal with.

Could be a culprit.
Get our surfers into such water and none will survive either.

Apparently its a common killer of seafarers during cyclones. I used to work at sea and crew I worked with knew three guys killed off Onslow 20 years ago. They explained to me that during a cyclone the sea can whip up so much foam that it covers the boat, suffocating those onboard.

I thought after that it was is maybe the reason behind why some ghost ships are found with all dead onboard, unknown cause.
