With plenty of old mobile phones now available ( or even cheap new one) I thought will be nice to have one hanging around the home or my business to check from time to time what is going on once away.

I imagine that mobile phone could be hang on the wall outside somewhere and permanently connected to charger.

Then if I want to check if everything is ok I could just call from my other phone and take a single snapshot on remote phone and send to me.

The problem I am having is:

- finding right applet for Android

-deciding if snapshot should be sent by phone line or as a data

- finding the cheapest mobile SIM plan for - say 365 day to check something sporadically , but don't need to pay monthly if not needed at all. Small , low resolution picture should be enough.

For example, I am awaiting now shipping container arrival to my business. To check if arrived I could send request to my remote phone and take a snapshot if the yard.

You're getting a shipping container delivered and whoever is delivering won't even let you know when it's arrived?

If that is not the norm here ? I don't even have a clue when may arrive within a week precision - say booking for delivery passed few days ago and still waiting. I ask doors to the front / driver and comes usually doors to the back and vice verse. We unload in first day of delivery and wait 2 weeks for pickup empty.I don't worry, I used to that already.

I think that having easy to install camera that could post a picture on request could be quite useful for many of us.

Lets imagine that that we hang mobile phone ( somehow protected from rain) onlooking our favorite sailing spot. Knowing the mobile number somebody could call and receive photo snap at the moment.
Unlike constantly streaming web cam , no permanent internet connection is required and small solar cell could take care of charging phone daily.Less then $100 equipment may provide instant view on required point interest.
Just hang on the tree or lamp post and forget.Too cheap even for somebody to steal or bother to climb onto lamp post.

I think George Mallory would suggest otherwise...
