Leighton Beach 29th December 2015
my son lost his GoPro on his first time using it. It was attached to head strap while he was boogie boarding. He got dunked by a big wave and it came off. He had saved all his pocket money, Birthday and Christmas money . Poor little fella is gutted, hoping someone has found it and will hand it in.

Try contacting GoPro as they have replaced lost cameras due to gear failure before. Also tell the how your son saved up for the camera worth a go.

If it didn't have some kind of float on it, it is rolling around on the bottom, they sink.

I found one in a pile of seaweed at the water's edge about 2 years ago, turns out that it belonged to Levi Siver who had lost it about two years before that.
The camera case was total trash, all scratched up but still closed, however it flooded. I managed to pry the memory card out of it, cleaned it up, and was able to play it back on my computer, that's how I found out who it belonged to. This was in California's central coast, not Hawaii.
The clip started out with Levi walking to the water, the camera was on the nose of his board, looking back at him. He starts sailing out, hits the first wave and the camera pops off his board, and sinks to the bottom. Then the clip is nothing but sand, the sun thru the water, sand, the sun thru the water, then sand again for about 15 minutes, as it is rolling around on the bottom. I mailed the memory card back to Levi, thru a mutual friend, he said it's a keeper, even though it's a very boring clip.

In the paragliding world GoPro is rapidly declining as a brand. The cheap cameras are matching them on technology and image quality and killing them on price.

If your son is keen on becoming a sports photographer or movie maker then by all means consider getting another GoPro. If he just wants to mess around with a camera then consider one of the alternative brands.

These are considered among the best of the rest. sjcam.com/

There is a fair amount of positive noise about these. www.gitup.com/en/

You can search for videos to see reviews and sample clips.
