Hi all.
I'm thinking of going camping over the Christmas holls but really don't know where to go or look.
Im wanting somewhere in the forest, plenty of trees, maybe hills or mountains. Around water would be nice to. Just somewhere with good views Probably no more than 4 or 5 hours from Perth.
Any suggestions would be great.
Heard there are lots of man made grand canyons(big holes in the ground) over that way to go camp/ummm,,,,,donga at.
You will only see the destruction of nature for $$$$$$ though and not the real natural aussie camping lifestyle you're after.![]()
And if you go to the pub you will meet the local cashed up drunken/drugged wildlife that its famous
for.
By pass Margaret River is my point of view mate. Every man and his extended family heads there now on break. A few hours further (two prominent towns; won't mention names incase I get blasted for revealing spots much like surf spots) and you will find what you're after. I remember camping around a river mouth where on one side we were fishing along a river and a short walk to the other was a beachie all isolated to me and a few mates.

As Glasssssy said, NOT Margaret River. I popped in to see some mates camping at Prevelly Beach around Christmas time and everyone had to have fly nets on their hats. Maybe Porongurup or Esperance? Porongurup gives you some nice bumps e.g. Bluff Knoll, and it's not crowded. Esperance is just an amazing beach experience with kangas trying to get into your tent and the most amazing turquoise water. Good luck, even WA at its worst it's going to be fun!
Manjimup/Pemberton somewhere along the Warren. Think Yeagerup/Callcup if you're fully self sustained and 4x4 or Heartbreak Trail if you need loos etc and 2wd.
Great fishing, swimming and with coast access too. It's good for the soul.

I'll second that a top area even down as far as Denmark. But it is that time of year when every man and his tribe is looking for their little slice of heaven so you may have to share the great out doors with others.
Have a great time .................
Not sure how busy it will be but Collie River between Collie and Wellington Dam has a few camping spots on the water, otherwise Honeymoon Pool and around there has some camp sites too. 2 hours from Perth and the water downstream of the dam wall will usually be flowing well as it is feeds into the irrigation network.
if you are metro look at lane poole reserve in dwellingup . Definately worth it
Most boring place EVER
Only thing to do is swim in the stupid river and walk past trees
yawn ![]()
Yep stay away from Margaret River.
Too many flies, it's windy, no camping spots except at caravan parks and lots of sharks.
I've heard great reports about Wittenoom... Ticks most of your boxes!
Just kidding!
But that brings me onto the topic of "Compulsory Land Acquisition". I saw a show about Wittenoom, and the last few residents being offered $30k (roughly), to "get out of town" in a Compulsory Land Acquisition. I watched this kinda recently, like within the last 2-3 years...
I too umbrage to the amount offered, just like the last residents did... In fact, those last few people just stayed, because $30k couldn't buy them Jack ****e anywhere else in this grand land!... One guy/couple(?) had awesome views too...
My point is, the Property Valuation is not relevant... The building is worth more than $30k to start with!... But, it's not what the property is worth, it's all about where will they move, and how much is property there...! The offer should be something like this... A committee suggests 4 or 5 towns within 3-5 hours of Witternoom, and then look at "roughly comparable" houses in each town. Then the resident being displaced should literally get to choose between the $280k house in Tom Price, or the $325k house in Kalbarri... $30k in that instance was COMPLETE RUBBISH!
Secondly, all of us should be somewhat understanding when it is time for a Compulsory Acquisition. Unfortunately, every so often, and few families get the "tap on the shoulder"... and Hey, you need to move! Bloody unfortunate, and I feel for those who don't want to move... But sometimes, cities just grow, and we need to expand our cities, and sometimes we (as a city), need a few blocks of land, for the greater good of the entire city...
A quick "google" of property today, Tom Price is circa $600k to buy in... Kalbarri is about $400++ Quickly moving into $500k+... So if I was on the committee (the Wittenoom Compulsory Acquisition Committee)..., I would have $600k on the table, plus $20k to move, $25k stamps, and a $25k sweetener)...
