Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone can give us a recommendation of where to stay in Kalpitiya, Sri Lanka. A kitesurfing mecca so we hear.
We are a couple looking nothing ritzy. I.e; a basic clean and tidy cabin with a comfortable bed and a good shower, along with some basic amenities, like toaster, jug fridge, hot plate and/or microwave.
If anyone knows The Paradise Cove in Aitutaki?? Something similarly rustic will do just fine. I think we paid $100 p/n for that.
On the flip side, if you have heard of places we SHOULDN'T stay at, then that will help to narrow down our search as there seems to be heaps of options.
We've chosen August as the month to visit, when we should anticipate good winds. Any thoughts to the contrary on this?
We figured we'd base ourselves in Kalpitiya for the 2 weeks. Kite for a week and explore for the other. We really have no idea as to travel times around the country, so any tips in this area would be well received.
Thanks folks, might even see you over there?!!!
Regards
Nigel
hmmmm
ask rumesh (i think ranawaka or something its been quite few years) hes pretty good at hooking up expats with places to stay etc. should be able to find him on facebook via stalking the kiteing schools and searching the friends lists.
theres quite a few houses theyre now that are good. not sure if they want someone for only 2 weeks tho but worth a shot. expect to pay around 1500 rupee or so each ....... a ****load less then a hundred think 40 was $1?.... i dont know i cant remember its been ahwhile. main thing is if you want your own digs or house share your going to allso want to hire your own tuktuk or truck
this nonsense about having a fridge etc is funny tho. what you want to be wanting is a mosquito net without any holes. maybe bring your own. specially if your going to be traveling thru sl for a bit.
i could set you up with some yuppie mates in the capitol but you really dont want to be in colombo for even 5 minutes more then is required.
least august is a good time to be theyre but just be aware the little lagoon (kappaladi) tends to dry up a little that time the year. if you end up down thalawila way.
good luck.
dont expect anything but wind tho....hope youve polished up on your muslim morning prayers theres a few wacky parades thru the streets in august aswell from memory.... oh and maybe dont bother with the pushbikes...keep an eye out for the red flags and if its sunny and you hear thunder its just the navy dropping a few shells into the drink OH and corpses, corpses of all sizes and varietys some change colours some open themselves. dont give money to the beggers either just makes it more annoying for all the other visitors who come after you.
